Does the drowsiness go away?

Been on mirtazapine 15mg before bed and the drowsiness is unbelievable - was advised to go home as so sleepy, also feeling quite fuzzy and slow. Just wondered did people find the drowsiness goes away after a while / gets better? Thanks

p.s. forgot to write i've been on 15mg for a couple of days, and was advised to go home from work. see, so fuzzy!

In my experience I have felt dizzy and as though I am still drunk with a hang over if that makes sence. My P doc said it should were off in a couple of weeks so I am sticking with it. Been ill for so long I will try anything, during this time I haven't been able to work so don't have that pressure, doing normal things are so difficult and I don't know how I am going to feel from hour to hour never mind day to day. I am looking forward to doing things again, at least the deep depression and panics have lifted so fingers crossed

iv been on them for 12 days now and the drowsiness is still there when i take them  strangley when i up the dose as doctor instructed was drowsie but could nt sleep

went fro 15mg to 30 mg so i to would appreciate any info ! , all the best and hope you feel better soon .

Hi

the first few days I was really like a zombie same as you after 3 days wasn't as groggy but still really tired and dizzy

Yes it goes away. I've been on mirtazapine for 15weeks in total now. I started on 30mg and after 10weeks went upto 45mg. Generally it shouldn't feel so bad after about a week or 2. I know it puts some people off mirtazapine, but it honestly goes away, and once it does..there are minimal side effects..well I have no side effects as do many other mirtazapine patients smile xx

When I went up to 30 I didn't sleep either only lasted a couple of days then back sleeping ok. Although I feel tired during the day I can't cat nap.

That's good to know gives us all hope thanks judith

thanks rachel. as judith says, it's reassuring to hear a success story! smile

also of note, i spoke to my GP this evening and she says the drowsiness paradoxically goes away the higher the dose.

That's what I was told as well seems the best dose is 45 from what other people have said, we will see

Supposedly so, apparently the lower doses are better for sleep...but I have found no difference..I still sleep perfectly. Mirtazapine is pretty gentle compared to most antidepressants. I know it doesn't always work for some people. I was very up and down on 30mg, and that's what made me go up to 45mg, but I seem to be turning a big corner now smile xx

Some people get by perfectly on lower doses, but generally, mirtazapine is most theraputic for tackling anxiety and depression at doses 30mg and above, but some people find it does the trick on lower xx

Well done its nice to hear gives me something to look forward to thanks RachelRachel

That's okay. Remember that people are my inclined to write bad experiences online...just like holiday reviews! If you get on well on meds, you're less likely to research them online. I'm glad that 45mg seems to be doing the trick for me now, hopefully you'll feel the benefit of yours soon smile

The dizzy thing is wired, think I am going to fall or pass out but I don't. Tried doing thinks slow and fast to see if it makes any difference but it doe sent seem to. The only time I feel really normal is when I sit down but can't spend my life sat down!

That's very true but it has really helped me to have these chats and I hope we can all help each other. The benefits are there in my head just waiting for my body to follow!

Have been on 45mg for four weeks.the side effects at the start we're awful.my mood has lifted I don t feel groggy in the morning but for some reason I feel like I need a sleep at tea time.i don't have a sleep and the feeling soon wears off.a bit dizzy at times otherwise it seems to be helping.

That's great news looking forward to it

yes it's very true about the negative bias; people rarely come online to write about having no problems!
