There are lots of different types of ibs. The one I have isn't very common, it's called post infective ibs. And it's caused by bacteria building up in your stomach, abdomen or reproductive area. It's usually caused by food poisoning but in the extreme it can be caused by any infection in those places. I had peritonitis where the lining of you abdomen get infected, was I'm hospital for weeks and now I have ibs. I'm so sorry you lost your baby and I'm not sure if what you have gone threw can cause it but logically to me it seems highly likely.
Ask you doctor about post infective ibs. I'm afraid there no cure, and treatment is as individual as the diagnosis. It's just about what makes you better. Cut out what food makes you ill or the symptoms worse, find the meds that's work for you, I take calpol and renie, along with anti sickness tables and stomach stabiliser, then I take colfac and buscopan for the ibs pain and I have to take amitriptaline at night to stop me feeling the pain. Relaxing and not getting stressed is also key, take up yoga or relaxation classes, don't do any strenuous exersize unless your going through a good patch, make sure you get good sleep and take vitamins and meal replacement shakes if your struggling to eat. I've had it for two years now, sometimes I struggle to work and I end up in hospital a lot, no a lot of people no ibs can be so bad but it can, it's totaly changed my life so good luck xx
Thank you so much for this ive been worried out of my mind, ill wait for the scan and then take it from there its just been an awful situation, and thank you fornyou kind words and reply I will het this sorted and I will also reply to you and let you know whats happening thank you xx
can I just ask one question doest it leave ur insides after an attack feeling tender? Xx
Ibs really does seem to be individually tailored. And I haven't managed to speak to many other post infective sufferers.
I'm in pain on my right hand side just next to my belly button all the time. Some time it's just a dull ache but if I eat something that upsets me or I get stressed out about something it can trigger a down wards spiral that can last upto a month for me. I've just had 3 weeks of work, due to it all. I get vomiting a lot so I get dehydrated, I stop eating so I lose weight, I go to the toilet sometimes 8-12 times a day and it's gross. I can't walk or go up stairs. I just sleep. The pain never goes away fully.
I hope you get some answers, keep in touch on here. It's nice to just get it all out your system to someone who can understand but not be embarrassed about it either. Ive just been refered back to a gastroenterologist again, roll on 19th November, as I'm still struggling. It has got Easyer, but the flare ups are unbelievable. Xxxx
Dear Rea,
I feel dreadfully sorry for your loss, obviously I cannot begin to understand how you are feeling. I have IBS and I know that trauma in your life can cause major problems in your bowels. I am sure you know by now that certain foods and drinks can make your condition worse. For me my codition deteriorates rapidly if I drink coffee, alcohol or acid substances like lemon juice. I have recently been prescribed Mebeverine by by GP which does seem to help.
I do hope that with time your condition improves, please try not to worry too much as this will only make you feel worse.
I really do hope you feel better soon
Best regards
bob
