I am so glad to have found this website. My operation is due 16th August and I am dreading it because I will be legless for a while ๐ฃ. The nurse at the preoperative visit told me to stop taking hrt prior to the date of op and I am really suffering. The weather is clammy enough but my hot sweats on top of that are making me really miserable.....and I haven't had my op yet. ๐ฃ
It well be worth it in the end to be painfree and walking....What do u mean legless. Here in Upstate NewYork u would be walking same day as surgery..I had both my hips done friday I will be 10 weeks to left hip and im 9 months to right hip .My Dr. Had me walking 200 feet with a wheelwalker a couple of hrs after surgery....Good Luck to you
Thanks Bonnie. I think that I will also be up on a walker the following day but wondering whether perhaps I should have had them done individually and not both at the same time. ๐
I had both of mine replaced 8 weeks ago and so glad to have done both at the same time. I was up walking 2 days after op (was very dizzy 1 day post op so waited until day 2), it is very hard going and sometimes gets you down but will be totally worth it in the long run. You can do this, all the best!
Thank you so much Nicola.
I had bi-lateral done 2 years ago. Difficult at the time but further on have to say best decision ever plus only one recovery & not stressed about having to repeat the experience. Good luck you will be fine & for all you double hoppers - hip hop hooray๐
That's great Helen. So good to hear from others who have already gone through it. ๐
I'm not too sure why you have been told to stop your HRT. I was told that it was ok to continue with my HRT - for which I was truly thankful.
Where are you based?
i just got home 1 hr ago, only 1 hip (posterior) replaced. I was in the hospital for approx 30 hrs. i was up & walking about 5 hrs later. i am a bit tired & my hip feels a bit stiff, but otherwise I am fine.
Good Luck, you will be as good as new soon !!!
I am in Enfield North London and was told that I should have stopped taking them 3 months ago because of risk of blood clots.
Good Luck to u on ur recovery...... keep up with your leg exercises and ur gonna be just fine
Thank you Bonnie
Wow that was quick to be going home. Hope your recovery goes well๐
Thank you !!
I had my other hip done in Jan 2013, and rehabbed hard, I will do the same thing with this one. I expect to have a perfect recovery as I did with my other hip !
Just to agree absolutely with Nicola and Helen! Nearly two years since my double replacement and I've never regretted having both done together. You will begin walking with aids very quickly, and every day will bring progress towards a new pain-free life.

My surgery lasted approx 1.5 hrs and I was in my room by 9:15 am and out today by 11:30am !
Thanks !!
It is so good to hear all these success stories. I was feeling very worried until I found this site. Now I am beginning to feel much more positive. Thank you.
Isn't it interesting that each hospital has differing protocols. My hospital (Sussex) wasn't bothered about me being HRT at all, and I specifically raised the issue.
Ur welcome ..It was the best thing I ever did..
I can relate to all of that DeeAnne...Just had my rthr 10 weeks ago today and going in for my lthr on the 12th of August. I almost forgot about I will be taken off of my Ibuprofin 600 for about a week prior to the surgery.. Oh yeah again! The darn OA just tears me up without my Ibuprofin....but will be happy to get the other hip done so soon so I can finally be on the road to recovery. Wishing you luck....Barb
