Double hip replacement

8 weeks post op and feeling awful. I have what feels like a lightening bolt shooting thru my leg. Does anybody else have the same thing?

Painful and annoying, I have AVN and fibromyalgia I figure it's the AVN spreading, do you have AVN? I had THR March 2014 waiting to do the other in Marrch, I have shooting pain sometimes even in my feet, knees

what is avn

A vascular necrosis where tye blood supply stop and the bone dies in joints

I just looked it up and read it was death of the bones. The surgery was actually on my husband and he had arthritis in his hips.

Yes that why I'm having surgeries avn and I have arthritis also.

That sharp pain you get I'm sure I get it, not sure

A THR is major surgery. Sometimes there is no nerve damage and other times you may not be so lucky. Six months post THR of the left hip I developed a sharp pain down my thigh. It was intermittent and I could go for weeks without feeling it yet when I had it I could not put my foot to the floor. THR was three years ago. I did some research and in fact that is how I found this group, and have come up with a few ideas of what it might be. I was about to give up and go back the doctor when I started swimming. I can honestly say that apart from a few twinges, I do not get the pain that I once did. My point is that he is probably experiencing nerve pain. Mention it to the doctor because of it does not subside they can do a nerve check and possibly isolate it and neutralise it. Or.. He may find that with exercise it calms down on its own.

Yes Melody, I too know what that feels like. It seems to happen mostly when I am resting or asleep. When it has happened to me my leg/body/arm jumped up for a split second and I was afraid it moved my surgery leg/hip the wrong way. It is like what I imagine sparking jumper cables to be when trying to revive a car battery!

I am just happy each limb does not spark at the same time for if it did I would appear to be floating!

Lillie, I have AVN too, dead hip and shoulder joints. Have replaced the hips with a revision planned in a month. Am not looking forward to replacing the shoulders.

If you don't mind my asking, do you know the cause of this in your husband?

Thanks,

Dawn
