Dreadful pain

I started with acid reflux on Monday evening which lasted until the early hours I was then woken up by it the following morning which got worse as the day went on I took Omprizole which never touched it, I ended up at my GP Tuesday tea time who sent me straight to hospital, the GI Surgeon thinks I may have a gall stone lurking somewhere! I had my gall bladder removed three years ago have suffered from Bile Salt Malabsorption ever since and now this! I have to go for an endoscopy and if that doesn't show anything I have to have an MRI scan, so fed up with all this, sorry for the rant xx

Have you got the head of your bed raised? It doesn't cure the reflux but helps. I eventually got an electric bed so when I'm suffering I can raise the head higher. I always keep a bottle of gaviscon next to the bed and it helps a little. Hope everything goes well with your MRI scan x

Hi Chris I always have plenty if pillows under my head but thanks for the tip and thank you for replying xxx

I thought the reason they removed your gallbladder was so that you did not get any more galstones. How can you now have a gallstone if your gallbladder has been removed.?

Sorry I am not very good at biology or understanding medical things.

Well according to the surgeon who saw me last night if there are a lot of stones before the removal they can disperse I have to say I am gobsmacked about this but we will see when I have the endoscopy xxx

Yes have been told that, it can happen that while moving the gallbladder small fragments can come adrift, causing them to get dislodged in the bile duct. Hope they sort you soon.

Thanks Janet me too the D at the moment is dreaful nothing is stopping it 7 times been to the loo today I am getting really fed up with it all

You need to get back in touch with Your doctor see what they can do to help stop the diorreaha. Phone if you can't make it in.

Yes I will Janet I have taken 4 Loperamide today I had my evening meal and 15 mins later I was in the bathroom, sorry to moan so much and thank you for replying xxxxx

It's ok to moan, that's what's good about this web site others understanding what one is going through.

Well it's still very kind of you to listen or read lol and reply xxxxxx

My surgeon had to remove one that had been stuck in the bile duct during the surgery to remove my gallbladder. He'd told me prior to the surgery that sometimes whilst removing the gallbladder some stones may fall out. Large stones are less likely to do it, and anyway they're easily seen, but smaller ones can cause problems at a later date.

Well I had to have ERCP before the gall bladder op and they removed 7 stones from my bile duct but I was never told anything like you were told Susan, I was just told that the op was successful but three months after the op I started with Bile Salt Malapsorbtion but when I had it diagnosed (two years later) I took  a tablet called Colesevelam and it was like a miracle I was able to go out again! but now it's stopped working and I am gutted!

Surgeon warned me because he knew I had a blocked bile duct, I'd been waiting for an ERPC (my health board was only carrying out emergency procedures at the time so kept being put back), and my gallbladder was also very inflamed which increases the likelihood of stones escaping. He did tell me after the surgery that he'd flushed the bile duct through with saline a number of times just in case.

:-) be nice to know how you get on.

I woke up this morning feel a lot better no bathroom at all today which is great that in itself makes me feel a lot better lol I will let you know when I hear from the hospital and the ongoing tests xxxx

Ask your doctor is Questran would help. I've had a lot of trouble with bile salts and though Questran doesn't stop things completely without it I would have to live in the bathroom.

Hi Chris I take Colesevelam I have done for the past 6-7 months it was fine at first but I now have to take two instead of one. I tried Questran and I just couldn't stomach it it made me heave. xx

Yea, I've got to admit it's not pleasant but it's working at the minute. I'm supposed to take 6 satchets a day but the most I've managed so far is 3. x

Your braver than me Chris I couldn't manage one lol
