Hi all, just a quick update on my recovery, seems to be going quite well, as the operation was two weeks ago and I am now up and about with just a stick, no crutches and the dressing is off, just looking forward to a shower tonight, pain in the right operated leg has all but gone and the swelling is going now by the hour, has huge this morning now is half of that, nearly the same size as my left, bad weak side that is letting me down, worsening quickly, and was the worse one but not if you were inside me, I thought that the right one was the worse one, so I want to get in quicker than the 13 July to see the surgeon to try to roll one operation into the other, cant walk as far as I would like to because of my poorley left leg, the pain is quite bad there,,, and get back to work as soon as is possible, say October...??? but reason for the update is to let scared folks know that if you are in good shape and do the excersises it gets better sooner than you could have dreamed, and I am still loosing weight, but still just under 15 stone, will update middle of next week for interested people and thanks for looking in on my patch.
Thanks Ian, I am 8 days post op, and today walked 30 feet lol. But the biggest obnstacle I overcame (or think I did) was walking narmally and just using my crutches as posts if you know what I mean.I was asked if this was too soon to stop using the crutches as crutches, but I'm sure you have to do what you feel is right. You give me confidence that I am doing the right thing a little and often.
So glad to hear you are doing so well Ian. Have to agree with you about being reasonably fit and doing the exercises really helps. I was walking my dogs twice a day for up to 40 minutes up to the day before my op on 7th May despite struggling to walk with a stick, Been doing my exercises on the bed twice a day and the standing up ones during the day too. Now after just three weeks I am walking about (albeit is slowly and carefully) with no crutches or sticks indoors and only using one crutch when outside. Been shopping and even taken the dogs for a short walk. After having two total knee replacements and knowing the amount of pain and recovery that took I wasn't looking forward to a hip operation but it has been so much easier than anticipated. I too have to have the other one done and the surgeon is going to book me in for that when I go for my check up on 25th June. Must admit I have no pain in that hip but the x-ray shows marked protusio into the socket and he wants to do it before it gets as bad as the other one which needed a bone graft! So I will add my encouragement to yours for any worried pre op patients that keeping yourself as fit as possible and doing the exercises will really help towards a speedy recovery. (I am 69 BTW so no spring chicken) Wishing you all the best
Hello Gill you seem to be coming along nicely. Just take your time and do what is best for you. Even at 10 weeks post op I realise the need to not overdo things. Horrible day today so not much walking done, will make up for it tomorrow before the rain sets in on Sunday
I know the apprehension...I was full of it too...The fact that you cannot put the clock back once it is done but really getting back to being normal again is a no brainer...
Really pleased for you Ian, I'm coming up to my 8th week, no crutches around the house! Going up & downstairs is painful on my knee, & with having the OA creeping up everywhere I guess it'll be knee op next! Anyway Ian best of luck with the rest of your recovery.
