I've never drank whilst taking this medication but I would like to as a social thing. I plan on just drinking a little at home at first to figure out what its like for me with effects ect... I understand you can get more sleepy which isnt an issue for me I also know you can get depressed whilst under the influence. These type of things are why I would want to drink in a safe enviroment first. Is there anything I should know before I do this? Is it safe? Are there any fatal risks to this? I wont be drinking a lot just a little when in a social aspect.
I forgot to mention my dose is just under 30mg.
Hey Kevin, I think you doing a home test is a good idea, I had done the same to avoid any unwanted reactions. I've been fine now drinking while on Mirtazapine and Sertraline and I'm on the highest dose of both, but everyone's body tolerance is different. Just be careful and if you feel comfortable maybe tell a friend to look out for you the first time? Hope this helps x
Thanks for the help, I'll have someone I trust around just in case something goes wrong. I've drank on other antidepressants before I just had to space out my drinks. I thought I should ask about this one though since I see a lot of negative things being said about mixing the two.
Hi Kevin. I've been ok having a drink whilst on mirt, 15 mg. Now tapered down to 3 mg. Initially you may feel a bit more tipsy on a smaller amount of alcohol as the mirtrazapine makes u sleepy anyway. Take pain killers before u go to sleep to stop any headaches u may get from mixing alcohol with mirt. That helps as well.
Yeah I drank a lot while on remeronlol, not saying you should, because everyone is different, but never had any issues at parties, or at the house. I took it right before bed.
Yep I've learned to space out my drinks too, I used to drink pretty quickly before but that was out of anxiety, can't do that anymore! 😸. Have heard/seen so many posts about horrible reactions but there are so many variables to consider...this of course doesn't stop the worry.
I did drink 1 drink at a part a few weeks ago but stopped (mainly because the drink wasnt good and thats all i had bought lol) but i ended up skipping my dose since i was worried about drinking and taking the pill in the same night.
Hi Kevin. I'm on 15 mg mirtazapine and never had problem drinking with it. I don't drink much too, just 2 glasses of wine during events and parties. I take mirtazapine 1 hour before sleep though, it's about 11pm. Never had or noticed any reaction. But you know we all have different reactions. Hope this helps.
Remeron isn’t a benzo or opiate, your fine with a few drinks on it I’m off it now after 11 years but I drank a lot on it
I’m on a half of 15mg dose. Only been taking for 4 days - I had a thimble full of alcohol today (a free wine and liquor taster at sainsburys) and felt merry still feeling odd an hour later.

I’m not a big drinker but I don’t want to give it up but not enjoying this reaction to a teeny amount of alcohol.
I’ve had ibs for 15 yrs but it has flared up the past 3 years and have tried different meds and a low version fodmap (I lost weight on low fodmap) so never went on full fodmap. My dr thinks it’s linked to anxiety and stress although ibs seems to be bad even when I’m Not stressed!
hi kevin i currently taking 15mg and are currently drinking alcohol a cpuple tines a week maybe a few cans of beer a night unless one or 2 nights that week i have more than the other nights but atill take my medication mostly before finishibg my last can. but ive been tokd by people beer or a can before bed helps you aleep well before i waa on the medication but i atill take my medication unless i feel a bit typsy then i dont take it. but i havent had problems before execpt i fhink i need a highwr doses than 15 as aome nights without alchol i tend to take 2 of my medication to knock me out
