Hi all, I've been diagnosed since February with pv, my doctor said i need to drink lots of water, does any one else drink 10 pints a day and still feel thirsty, then spend half the night in the bathroom, broken sleep is the only thing that is getting me down, be nice to know i don't suffer alone on the sleep issues
Hi, doug. My doctor said to drink lots of water with my meds. I take HYdroxyurea, and I take Allopurinol for my gout. I also do urinate very often, probably because of gout. IT affects the kidneys. Often, gout comes with PV. However, if you had gout, you'd probably know by now. Harris

had mild gout before, only got it twice a year, just fed up with waking at night, hence this reply
No I've not bee told/asked to drink so much or any particular quantity. I have PRV and take Hydrea also.
I can see how drinking that much would result in frequent visits to the bathroom.
Perhaps it could be any liquid so not just boring water at least.

Hi, nandrews, the reason I was told to drink lots of water, was that I take allopurinol for gout, and also Hydroxyurea. The allopurinol is the reason I must drink a full glass of water with my meds.
The gout affects my kidneys, causing frequent urination.

Hi Doug, I have been asked to drink at least 2 litres of water a day. I am finding this very difficult as I am not a great drinker and don't seem to get thirsty. I am trying to drink as much as I can and my work colleagues keep reminding me to drink ha ha so can't get away with not drinking at work.
I am also very tired most times of the day so you are not on your own as I also am awake a lot during the night. In fact, I can't wait to retire so that I don't have to get up at 6.30 am every morning when I am feeling absolutely shattered. I should have retired last September when I was 60 but due to government changing dates of retirement I have to work until I am 64 1/2 so am looking forward to being able to stay in bed when I want to.

2 litres per day is not that unusual since the recommended is 2 for men and 1.6 for women. It is important for good health to have a proper intake of fluids. Maybe you were refering to just water. But I think any fluids will count - though maybe beer and wine not be encouraged. Certainly not at 2 litres!
