Driving after hip op

Although your surgeon/ medical team say you are fit to drive you do need to check your policy. Some companies need a letter stating you are medically fit. Mine does and failure to do this would mean I was illegal and therefore unable to claim in the event of an accident. Of course being 66 may mean my policy has different clauses to those who are 40

Thanks Ann will check it out

Hi Ann, I'm 66 too but I checked my insurance policy & can't see anything about informing them of health issues. It seems like they are all different.

Hi Ann

I think the safest advice to all is to check your own policy to safeguard your position in case of an accident. I am 64 and I did check with my insurer who said thanks for getting in touch but I did not need to. They did tell me however that if I had an accident and my consultant had told me I couldn't  drive ( or confirmed when I could) then I wouldn't be covered by the insurance policy! So I did not drive until I had my check up at 7 weeks and my consultant told me I could drive.  I know we all miss being able to drive but why risk an accident, injuring someone (let alone yourself) and also have no insurance cover for the sake of a few days/weeks?

Stay safe
