I am 8 weeks post op and today drove for about 30mins to shops. I had practised an emergency stop outside my house but did not want to try it out for real just in case leg did not like sudden jolt. As it was my right leg I found swapping from accelerator to brake felt strange but all in all a good experience except feeling stiff when getting out of car. Getting Lower back ache at present similar to what I had pre op so hoping it's just healing rather than starting up again. My scar is niggling too but I am sure that is healing.
Hi Hilary well done driving again I drove at six weeks and had to do an emergency stop for real when i first went out car pulled out in front of me.l have RHip done to . I still have back ache after sitting down too long it gets stiff but okay after walking a few steps.
I was advised by my surgeon to drive round a supermarket car park after hours....was a good idea to practice......still used a bin bag on the seat to slide around getting in and out for a couple of weeks though!
Hi
what would we do without the bin liners??.?.
Hilary
Scary experience. I do find walking around helps the stiffness

good evening ... it is great to be able to drive again, isn't it ... I am driving now for a couple of days ... short trips - the driving is not the problem so much, but getting in and out of the car still is ... remember the mini skirt advice - put knees together and swoop the legs - small car and low seat and I too have the bin liner on the seat as well as a cushion - I was able to do one stop only but did 2 stops yesterday ... yeh !!!! store has some challenges - I have a new found courage and ask for help from strangers to get me items on bottom shelf ... good night !
Hi
i took my gripper in with me and getting potatoes from bottom shelf was a bit frustrating but it worked. Managed the disabled loo without hubby as it has rails at the side but is very low and I feel uncomfortable sitting down on hard surfaces. I was exhausted when I got home and unpacked shopping but these things have to be done.
