Hi. I am 7 weeks post right total hip replacement and just driven round the block for the first time. My hip is aching now I could feel pressure when braking with right leg as was having to move right leg over to touch pedal.do you think could dislocate hip moving in this way?
Guess should wait few days before trying again. Frustrating as once can drive will give me more independence!
I cannot wait to be able to drive again but have a few more weeks before I would even attempt this.
How many weeks are you Elaine? Really can't wait as will be lovely to get out and about again
Hi Tracey, 7 weeks you need to get out ! I'm at almost 6 weeks RTHR. I Know we are all different, your body tells you what you can do. I had to push my self to get back to work so I have been driving for two weeks now. It depends on what kind of car I think. You Might try a small pillow on the car seat. I have found its the pressure on the side of the hip that hurts. If it hurts to lift your leg to the brake pedal maybe your not quite ready. Good luck you'll get there. Do your exercises! Dave
Hi Tracey, I started driving 3 weeks and 1 day after my RTHR. I drove a small distance for a short time every day and by 4.5 weeks felt completely confident. I believe I was much safer and stronger than before the surgery. Just an idea for an approach.
I am 4 weeks tomorrow, having had bi lateral hip replacement... my car is automatic so just need my right leg to obey my commands...
