Went to my daughter's yesterday driving for the first time six weeks to the day since my operation and boy did it feel good. She
doesn't live that far away and I was very nervous. IT felt good
to being doing normal things again and because of the exercise
I slept better. I was really tired but glad to be back in the real world. Probably suffer today.x
Ah weld one, I was wondering when to give it a go, I'm four wks pkr, went to my daughters yesterday but my husband drove, same as you she isn't far, about ten mins am nervous about trying , obviously knees stiff, but can get in and out of car ok now, have tried pretenting I've got my food on peddles, when my husband drives, to see if my leg can do it, seems ok, that sound really silly I now , but I'm nervous .
Oh not weld one, well done
Hi Joan, I remember driving for the 1st time one day before my 6 weeks were up. I drove 1/2 hr. to see my consultant & back again. I know exactly how you felt. I too was a bit nervous but so great to be out & about & independent. I also then packed up my things (had been staying with my son & family), did a quick shop in the supermarket & drove back to my place where I collapsed. Soo good to be home again as well as driving. Took me a couple of days to recover, but worth it.
well done you, I am 9 weeks post op, still not driving, had some set backs along the way, have tried sitting in car and working the pedals, but could hardly walk next day, knee is still very stiff, but not much pain, I can get into the car carefully!!! Hope you continue to do well.x
Congratulations, Joan. One more step along the road to recovery. Well done.
Don't you have to make sure you are covered with your car insurance? I think 6 weeks is the shortest time possible with their advice.
Congrats on driving Joan! Isn't it great to be able to drive again and not depend on others! At 10 weeks my surgeon gave me the ok to drive and I feel as though this was a big milestone for me.
I will be 6 weeks po, on the 8th. I see my doctor on the 10th and I'm hoping he gives me the OK to drive. This depending on others is a pain, but thank goodness for them, otherwise I'd be stuck in the house. Fingers crossed for the OK!!!!!
