Driving

Well I thought I'd have to wait 6 weeks but having spoken to my gp and my insurance company they all said yes I have had left thr and drive an automatic though not sure if it had been right leg. It felt so good yesterday ( three weeks exactly ) Prior to the op I would arrive home and just sit in the car plucking up the courage to get out and walk up the drive  Yesterday I got straight out without a thought Well the only thought was how do I get the crutches out without bending !!?  Naturally being me pride went before a fall and I lost my wing mirror to a green bin lurking round a bend ,so it will have been a costly first drive but so worth it. On another note I have been suffering from twitchy legs in bed making me get up and down all night a friend suggested tonic water before bed and it has worked amazingly Apparently it's the quinine that helps Right I'm off to plan my driving for today. Hope you're all ok

I can so relate Jane ....did you look at the youtube video about "how to get in and out of the car" ?  can you take a cane/stick with you instead of crutches ?

Unfortunately I am back to sitting in car and getting my act together to get out as other hip needs THR now too .... but this too shall pass ... happy to be driving anyway ..

warm hug

Hi Jane, Its wonderful being able to drive again and like you I found crutches a real pain so I bought a folding walking stick from that well known internet site, problem sorted :-)

I also had left THR and fortunate enough to have an auto even though its a "low slung beast", which is impossible to get out of in a lady-like way!!!

I also have a full rally spec manual that has been out of bounds as its even lower to the ground, racing seats and rally harness but I am pleased to say that I drove it on Thursday :-)))) No problems getting in/out, clutch control or emergency stop, oh and I still have all my wing mirrors ;-)

Have a lovely day and enjoy your drive. Dot x
