I have found that since starting Citalopram I drool often..it's pretty gross! Mostly happens in my sleep and in the mornings when waking I find it all down my chin and cheek, but sometimes it can even happen with eating. It seems to cause an excess build up of saliva.
I wondered if anyone else has experienced this on it?
Hi Paul I have the opposite, total dry mouth so much so my lips and tongue are really sore and dry and cracked, even with drinking water and using lip salve, doesn't seem to be getting any better either. ??

Hi Anne,
I had the exact same prob when I first started it, the dry mouth and lips lasted weeks.. it wasn't very nice at all.. my throat got so dry at night at cracked and then got infected and I had a real bad sore throat.. my lips were dry and all pealing too. I've heard a lot of people say this has happened.. and you're right, no matter how much water you drink or how much lip balm you use, it doesn't seem to help much. I think it's important still to drink extra water though.
The drooling probkem started later on for me after the med began to work..about 3 months into treatment.
I don't know which is worse, the dry mouth or the drooling! Thankfully its not a major problem in daytime and so nobody sees it. I'm only 43 with all my own teeth, only old folks and babies are supposed to drool!
Paul
Ha ha Paul I think we all drool at some time lol I haven't had that yet still got the dry mouth, my doctor states it has nothing to do with the Cit it is down to the anxiety and bodily reactions ?? doesn't matter whats causing it I don't like it, was at the dentist for a check up but sent home as could not open my mouth far enough without it cracking and been really sore, healed up the last few days now but still got dry tongue and throat all the time, not just at night.
Maybe your body started the drooling process to compensate fro the constant dryness ?? lol congratulations on having all ur own teeth at 43 they must be good.
anyway have a good day
Anne
