Well I can say I managed pretty well. Today was my first time driving since my surgery (will be 4 weeks post op on Tuesday). I think I did pretty well. I was worried about being able to put on the brakes, gas when I needed to because my right leg was the operated side, but I managed it just fine. I went to Walmart all by myself. I used my crutches to get into the store and once inside got a ride on buggy. Once I finished I had to leave the buggy inside and put my things in a regular cart and pushed it out to the parking lot just fine. In fact I noticed that I walk better pushing the cart than before my surgery. With two bad hips and a messed up spine I had to lean on the carts with all my weight and still could barely walk. Today was different, and I actually was standing up straight pushing the cart and did it all with minimal pain....Quite a bit of difference. Perhaps when I get my left hip done I will be able to walk somewhat normal again. Yep, today was definitely a milestone for me....Thanks to all of you for your advice and support...Barb

I'm not sure if I will ever have the confidence to drive again. If I do thinking of buying a automatic car 🚗

Thanks Kath, oh I wouldn't have been driving if I had to drive a stick shift. My left hip is still bad and my husbands car is a stick and few times I drove it I had to manually lift my leg to put it on the clutch. I drove and automatic today was a little worried about being able to manuver my right leg as needed but it worked fine. As you are driving so soon after your THR I presume you have had an anterior hip replacement. Good luck with your recovery
Hi Veronica, nope actually had the posterior procedure and was in surgery for a long time because my hip was so bad plus also had a cracked pelvic bone...I am not complaining about my recovery having not being able to function very well for a year now. I still have to get my left hip done but this so far is an enormous improvement for me...Thanks and good luck to you also...Barb

Well done Barbie. You'll soon be changing your name from 'no play' to 'go play Barbie' . Now the challenge is to take it easy and allow yourself recovery time after each new adventure.

Thanks Renee, yes freedom and independence mean so very much! My surgeon wanted to do the other one in July, but I told him I don't think I will be ready by then. So he said we will discuss it when I come in for my six week visit on July 12. I know I can't put it off for too long or it will get as bad as the right side was. It is bone on bone right now so really needs to be done so. I just dread going through all of this again, but then I am also loving being able to function better. It has been a long tough year for me and I finally see a light at the end of this long tunnel. Hugs to you also....Barb

Hahaha that is funny Laura, I am sure ready to be "Go Play Barbie" I have been noplaybarbie for way to long...Yes, I rest everyday after doing things. I do something then rest a while. Our bodies tell us when we are pushing too hard. I just keep trying and just about everyday I discover something I couldn't do the day before.
