Drugs that cause tinnitus

Since starting on fluoxetine  20 mg I have tinnitis in both ears but my GP said it was psychological but I still think it is the tablet anyone else had the same if it is due to tablet does it stop when I stop taking the fluoxetine. I also get a crackling noise when I swallow saliva .

is it on the list of possiable side effects . on the leaflet .

if not could you wean yourself of,

to see if when meds stop the tintius does .not sure about the drug because iv never used it .confused

I would stop taking it! Google the product and ask if its ototoxic drug that causes tinnitus or any other side effects, i hope it goes away if you stop taking it, good luck and God bless!

Hi Sandra ,those Benzo increased my T big time ,stop them ,look at some Bach Rescue Spray in chemist shop ,all natural ,no side affects ,hope yours go .

It states ringing in ears but is like a hissing noise

There is always somebody that knows! Hey Sand, Hope you stop taking that med and wish you a full recovery!

Hi Sandra

Some drugs can definitelt cause Tinnitis or worsen existing tinnitis as in my case. I had mild tinnitis that I could live with following a throat infection back in 2005. However, a year ago I had to take two courses of the antibiotic Trimethroprim following a bladder infection and half way through the second course my Tinnitis worsened dramatically. Before I just had a mild low hum like a car engine running but now it id much louder plus Inhave a very loud high pitched hissing too that I find difficult to block out.

I spoke to a friend who is an audiologist in the U.S and she said some drugs, including the one I took can worsen or cause tinnitis and the damage can be permanent which does serm to be the case for me.

I am coping a bit better than a year ago but some days are worse than others. I am ok when in cities (such as a recent visit to Venice) or in the car or by streams or the sea.

I wish I had never taken the drug though!

My biggest regret to date for me being placed on them ,all for rhinitis stress ,set me off down anxiety road also ,which never had prior to taking them .They don't suit everyone. But don't know that till later after your on them .Called pot luck. Damned if you do and damned if you don't  either way .less you mess with them the better  Im just going by my own experience with benzo's,chance you take ,they can I know help others heard people swear by them ,but with my already having tinnitus it was a mistake drs don't know enough in my view about tinnitus and its behavior ,just know my tinnitus kicked off big time ,to late for me now to reverse its now daily pattern .Miserable condition on the planet. And no med cure as yet .it does your head in living with it ,that I can vouch for .So if I can prevent another getting it I will tell. Go for a natural med every time first .Do homework on these Benzo's then make your own choice of action  ,same with aspirin another tinnitus kicker  not many aware of .Headache drink more water a cranial osteopath told me that's what the brain needs to relax head tension .I always pass that info on .ive learnt a lot past few years the good and the bad .

Hi Abi another T sufferer ,you I read had same thing happen ,don't we wish we had a crystal ball ,I've had T 18 yrs but after Benzo 9 yrs ago it's gotten bad  no longer that soft hissing in background to which I always coped with ,no problem .Now it's so high ,nothing controls its level ,don't like it low either ,goes inwards over the head ,another pits of a day ,but I know others suffering that type of T ,I also now don't answer phone as I can't suffer people's high voice pitch .So that's hypercussis T ,never had that prior to that Benzo .Just think what a mess that med led me into ,whole different level .Hope Sandra get med wise from what's happened ,wether her T goes or not .Wishing you some peaceful days Alb ,as do myself or anyone living with T .
