The skin is coming off of my toes and foot right below my toes. I have been putting lotion on them several times a day and they continue to peel like crazy, I can only imagine what the rest of my foot looks like. Have any of you found any thing that works?
Hi, I found Vaseline was better than anything else to use. Of course nothing like a soak in warm water but because my scar hasn't healed I have to keep it all dry. Can't wait till can but foot and leg into a warm bath.
Gill, I can't wait either. I will try vasoline. Thanks for the advice.
Hi Leelee
i soaked in Epson salts but be careful not rub the skin off as the new skin below is very prone to infection and very thin, I I put aloe Vera on it and that was all it healed up nice and now I use coconut oil - hope that helps ....
Thank you Jannie.
That is normal I got a great tan just before I broke my ankle and that peeled for 8 weeks aswell as toes. I kept using an antiseptic spray and just kept scraping any excess skin and build up of sweat ! Due to it being the height of summer with 100% humidity,Sounds gross but it's true
Ho Leelee
I had the same problem after my cast was removed. I was told to put body lotion on the foot but only water on the scar areas. My socks got a lot of the dry skin in them by the end of the day but after 3 weeks all the dry skin has come off. No medics tell us what to expect!
No they don't Beryl and they should. I have been applying lotion on my toes and on the little bit of foot I can get to. The skin is coming off in chunks and is pretty nasty. Thanks for the advice.
Hi leelee. I had the same issue with dry skin, it's nothing to worry about, you are doing the right thing by putting moisture back into your skin with lotion.
It took around 2 weeks before I was able to notice a significant difference.
Thanks Paul.
My surgery is next week so I have been collecting as much information from doctors & friends. A few friends tell me this is the best cream for peeling chunk skin on foot & toes. EXCIPIAL (20%urea)
Intensive healing cream (has a picture of a foot on container) purchase on line. Target has this for hands. Also GOLDBOND ultimate healing foot cream for the rest of the foot and leg.
I was given a heavy-duty cream in the hospital for possible bed sores. That didn't happen luckily, but I tried the cream on my peeling foot and leg after I got the cast off. It is very heavy and greasy, but worked great. It is called Remedy; made by Medline. Not sure if you have it in the UK though.
Thank you! I am in the US, so I will try a medical supply place to see if they carry it or can get it. I have putting vasoline on my toes and it has helped some.
I just waited till cast came off and I was told I could shower, then pat incisions dry, I had three, then lather them up real good and put a sock on at night. The shower plus oils did the job on dry chunks of skin on bottom of foot. I had used coconut oil on my thyroid scar so I used that. I patted it on very lightly until it was absorbed, and then moisturized both legs and feet with Gold Bond strength and resilience, proteins and lipids for mature skin. It's been ten weeks since surgery and everything is nice and soft. Incisions are healing up nicely. Good luck to you!
Thank you low-key. Right now I am putting vasoline on my toes, everything else is going to have to wait for cast number 2 to come off. By the time that happens, I probably won't have anything left but dead skin lol. I can wait to take a shower and lather my foot, sounds amazing.
First shower was heaven but it takes two or three to get all the dead skin off. You don't want to force it or you will pull into lower layers of skin and make it bleed. Some want a bath but showeres don't submerge the foot thus incision stays intact. This is all after the stitches have been removed, of course!!
Staples are long gone. I am starting week number 9 in a cast with 3 more to go. It feels like it has been forever.
Hi. I have the same problem i used gold bond foot cream and my feet are a. Mess peeling an like burn sensation they were fine i just thought the cream was gona help me to.keep em nice an soft. I dont kno what to do.
I used olive oil on my foot. Heat it up a little and then massage it into your skin. Don't use lotion or Vaseline because they both can block out moisture and some lotions have fragrance. It really worked great for me.
I found that because the skin has been covered there is no way for the skin to exfoliate properly. I was putting lotion on like a crazy person, but most of it just sat there and was not absorbed.
I started to take my air cast off several times a day and load up my foot with baby oil. With a little massaging and the air, it was absorbed enough to start getting rid of the nastiness.
Even if you have a plaster cast on, you can put a few drops on to alleviate the dryness and flaking.
Hope this helps a bit!
