Hello I have this problem. I started doing karate again and while doing karate my mouth and throat gets really dry to the point it makers me panic. Its like there is no saliva flow and it makes me not want to do karate. I can't just wonder off to get a drink of water when i want.
I do take medication EFEXOR-XR 150mg and Olanzapine 5mg. any help would be good.
I doubt you'd be able to use a lozenge during karate. There are however sprays that you could use beforehand. They are over the counter to buy. Just spray some before and you should be good.
I think it is probably a breathing issue more than it is anything else since it only happens when you are doing karate. I think you might be helped by breathing exercises, I think you are breathing through your mouth, in turn causing your mouth to go dry. Try looking up mindful breathing and making sure you are breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth. I know that this is bothersome to you and is causing your anxiety to kick in but a lot of times hyperventilation and shallow breathing is what starts a person to panic in the first place and we don't even realize we are doing it. Of course talk to your doctor about it as well and see if he/she has anything they can add to help you with. Also maybe chewing gum while you are doing karate, gum helps saliva production, and may help keep your mind on the gum chewing not the dry mouth. I hope you find something that helps so you can continue to enjoy karate.
Also I don't think its dehydration because I don't feel physically thirsty well at least not that thirsty. Its just a really dry mouth and throat with no saliva. I'm thinking it just might be because Im unfit atm but not sure if unfitness causes dry mouth/throat
