I recently had some dry redness pop up on my penile shaft and a random red spot show up on the head of my penis. I don’t have any burning sensations when I pee or otherwise. I took a HSV test this past Monday and am waiting on the results, just curious if anyone else has come across this. I honestly don’t know if it is herpes or something else, there are no blisters or discomfort. and I have never had anything like this show up prior. Any words of advice? Thanks
Hi, obviously by looking I cannot tell whether you have any issues related to STD/STI’s - what I would suggest is that your penile skin is generally in a very unhealthy state. Therefore if you feel you have been at risk of contact of STD/STI’s you need to continue to get tested for any possibility of those.
In terms of the health of your skin I wonder if you have been applying anything to your penis in your last few months - such as to deal with suspected bacterial or yeast/fungal infections potentially acquired during unprotected sex?
You also need to think about everything else that comes into contact with your penile skin. So, any form of skin cream or moisturiser, many men use things like baby oil, or again skin creams or lotions for sex or masturbation, so add these to your list if you use these. Even many sex lubes can worsen already damaged or unhealthy skin.
In simple basic terms, things like soap and body wash such as shower gel are the number one enemy of healthy penile skin so the first thing to do would be to ensure as far as possible these do not contact your penile skin. Use water only, at the end of a shower, take time to use the running water to rinse away any body cleansers you have applied to the rest of your body from your entire groin region - when you get out the shower use clean dry towels that only you use, carefully 100% dry your penile skin so that no moisture remains. Most men give little thought to the process of drying the skin, but when skin is damaged like your’s it is critically important.
Depending on how long your penile skin has been in a general unhealthy state my suggestion would be that you may benefit from a visit to a Dermatologist who would assess what treatment could be suitable, this could entail giving you a steroidal ointment to help your skin to recover …
