I was on a course of Roaccutane last year which I ended due to the severity of the side effects, particularly the dry skin around my eyes which became very painful. I haven't taken Roaccutane for about 4 months now but still get flare ups of very dry patches on my top eye lid and under my brows (I think it looks like eczema - patchy?). I have asked my GP if they can recommend anything but he just suggested Vaseline which I have tried and found to be useless (it actually dried my eyes outs even further). I currently use Simple skincare and find this to be ok with the rest of my face but it burns the life out of my eyes. I find E45 is gentle enough but they are still very dry.
Can anyone suggest some sort of eye cream or medicinal cream I can buy that will be gentle yest moisturising? Thanks
If the E45 is helping a little, then I would stick with it and perhaps your skin will improve eventually.
I use Clarins and Nivea products. The original royal blue tub of Nivea might help. It is very greasy and I have been using it on my legs which had become extremely dry. I found it very good. I normally use the Nivea Soft, which is the other tub, white with blue on it. Clarins is much more expensive.
Waitrose sell a vaseline type product in their baby range, called Botty Butter [or similar, I forget!] That is also very good.
Otherwise, I would suggest looking at baby products for nappy rash etc..
I don't think you want to use anything like a steroid cream on your eye area.
While not dealing really with your question - and without knowing if your acne has improved - there was an article in Sunday Times that a new prescription regime is now proposed that is a quarter of the dose over 5 months. This is said to do away with side effects. You might want to return to your dermatologist.
Ultimately it a trade off. Which is worse the acne or side effects?
I've been suffering with really bad eczema since last September, the only thing to shift it was steroid pills, but I didin't take them for longer than a week as they scare me and made my warts grow and itch. So the eczema is back and I'm back on betnovate cream. I've been using Oilatum for the dryness that results from the eczema, but it wasn't doing great. Doctor gave me a new cream called Eucertin which is 5% Urea. I used it for 2 days on my sandpaper back and then I went back to the docs to get a huge supply so I could use it all over, beause it was amazing, the sandpaper is gone. I have 2 products Replenishing Face Cream & Dry Skin Replenisher.. get it now, it's not greasy when it dries either. Good luck
