Hi. For almost 6 months now the skin on the head of my penis and under my foreskin has been dry. The head of my penis is sometimes discoloured and shiny, and there are occasionally dark purple/brown spots that appear now and then. The doctor thought i might have balanitis based on my symptoms so gave me clotrimazole which i used for 10 days. I am not sure if it is back to normal now or not. it is still quite dry and the colouration goes from pale to red to small darker spots sometimes. the problem is it has been so long that ive been dealing with this that i am not really sure now how it is supposed to look when it is normal. the picture is how it looks now. what do you guys think?
im not an expert but i think you should probably try getting a cream to keep that area moist
If the picture shows how your penis currently is then there is quite a high level of irritation present?
What you need to think about is EVERYTHING that comes into contact with your penile skin.
So typically it would be: Soap, shower gel, other body wash products you use in the shower or when taking a bath. What you need to work towards is that only water that is in contact with the skin on your penis. Drying penile skin is just as important as ANY moisture can cause further irritation - use towels that ONLY you can use.
You may be applying creams to help the skin - if so, what are they? If you masturbate or have sex have you applied anything to your penis such as an actual Lube, or something you use as a lube, or simply, anything you apply to your penis for sexual function?
What can happen is that once that irritation is present almost anything that is in contact with the compromised skin will prevent it from healing - in these circumstances you need to think of the broader things such as what your clothing is washed in, particularly underwear or anything else that is in close contact with your groin / genital region, such as sports shorts and suchlike …
