Dry, sore, itchy scalp - can you offer suggestions for relief?

Have any of you had an itchy sore scalp from your steroids?  This has started to be an issue for me lately as I approach 3 years on the meds.  Might you have any suggestions for ointments that you've applied that have helped?  I feel certain it's from the steroids I'm on.

Soak your head with oil before shampooing.  Let the oil sit for about half an hour.  I use olive oil.  Some have recommended argan oil.

Hi Leonard. The latest idea is to use coconut oil. Rub into scalp leave as long as you like then shampoo out. Most supermarkets sell it.

You can always fry with it too. It's supposed to be much healthier for you than some of the other oils and fats we use for cooking.

i had this a few weeks ago and always seem to this time of year or around October time.   I thinks it's to do with the rise and fall of the leaf, just wondered if this applies to your scalp problem, Nizoral is a shampoo you can use.   The other thing to be mindful of if you're around children is the dreaded head lice. 

Now ive probably made you itch more.

I suffered for years with an itchy scalp. It was similar to psoriasis and the only thing that touched it was a steroid mousse that my mother was prescribed with. Doctors wouldn't prescribe anything like it so it got worse and worse. Since starting on Pred it cleared up within a week and is still at bay. It must be about 20 years since I've had a clear scalp. Viva la Pred.

Another possibility, because it has definite anti-inflammatory properties, is an oil derived from a plant which I cannot name on this forum.  It begins with an h and ends with a p.  The oil has no phsychoactive properties and should be readily available at health food stores.  I found this was the oil which cleared up dry itchy hands and enabled me to ditch the hydrocortisone ointment!

might you recall the name of that oil that helped with your scalp?  I've tried Jojoha Oil.

Not me with scalp problems, I was the one with the itchy hands.   H*** oil for dry hair.

Did you try the Nizoral Shampoo?  It's worth a try
