due to have injection of steroid and anaesthetic - any advice?

Hi

three years ago an MRI of my hip revealed bursitis.

i put up with the pain initially but now it limits the amount i walk and keeps me awake at night.

my GP is due to inject me with steroid and anaesthetic this week and I just wondered what to expect, from anyone else who has had this procedure?

thanks

Hi Dambudzo

I have had bursitis now for about 7 years. Initially I was in a lot of pain and stiffness for 6 months. It went away after a couple of years but now comes back if I walk too much.  Its difficult as I have a new dog! I have had a steroid injection in my shoulder as that joint is also painful although bursitis hasn't been diagnosed there. In fact all my joints hurt - could they all be bursitis I wonder?  The steroid worked well for a couple of months then the pain came back. I don't think I'll have another injection but have been considering shoulder op. And yes, always more painful at night.

hi Annabel

thanks for replying.

i've had the injection and the doctor said to wait 3 weeks for it to work. not sure if that was the same for you? Anyhow after just a couple of days i have started to sleep throughout the night without waking up in pain. not sure if it is psychosomatic or if the injection is already having some impact. whichever is the case i am quite satisfied so far!

But I take note of your comment that the pain returned. And i suppose i'll just make the most of it while i can!

Hi.  Yes, the pain did disappear quite quickly - like magic really. I think it sometimes does stay away, just not in every case.  Hope you have good luck with it. A.
