Dull discomfort in upper abdomen (epigastrium)?

I'm a 29 year old woman.

Last Saturday after a really nice meal I've noticed that I was having a dull ache in my upper abdomen, center - slightly more left. It felt like a dull ache, vaguely crampy.

Not an acute pain, I could continue my activities normally, but it felt like something was tender and achey inside the abdomen, kind of like when you get hit in the plexus and you have that tender feeling and can't breathe deeply.

In the evening this sensation disappeared but starting from then now I get it occasionally during the day. I can feel it around 1/2 of the day. More often after eating, although there were 2 occasions in which I ate but didn't get the discomfort.

It a vague discomfort, nothing to bend me over. Sometimes I can feel it more deeply towards the back. I feel like I need to breathe more deeply.

I eat normally and have a normal appetite. I don't feel fullness after eating, no heartburn, no nothing.

I've never had stomach problems before, so I don't know what this can be?

Last abdominal ultrasound was 3 months ago and it was normal.

Can this be IBS related? I have bad IBS in my intestines, colon is always swollen and spastic (I can palpate it easily when lying down) and I suffer from anxiety.

I'm worried about pancreatic cancer, but I assume that would be unlikely? I just don't see how this could be the stomach, as usually when I get stomach issues it feels differently, like indigestion - but this is not indigestion, my digestion is just fine. No bloating, no burping.

Hello,

I know this is no help to you, I just read that you have IBS in your intestine And colon.

Is there anything you do to calm the spasms down to avoid a flare up such as constipation?

Thank you sorry I couldn't be anymore help. If you've got no link to anything then seeing your gp would be the best idea

For me nothing worked so far... My whole colon is spastic, despite taking anti-spastic medication (mebeverine).

Hi Rebeccaj

Well if you've been dignosed with IBS, i could be from that.  I know when mine first started up it started like that.  Then it turned into sever cramps as a prelude to several bots of diarrhea which sometimes went on for several days. Usually withing 30 minutes of eating a meal, sometimes lses time. than that.  I've been prescribed Lotronex which has helped me tremendously, but your gastrointerologst would be the better judge for you on that.  He also prescibes a very mild generic of Librac which tends to calm down my stomach.  I also suffer from acid reflux and sometimes I think it's all th acide my stomach produces tha affects my intestinal track.  Check with your Dr and have a discussion about what you can do and have him run tests on you to see if they think something lease is going on.

Hello Rebecca

After reading all the comments about IBS, I am totally convinced that this condition is caused by worries , stress and anxiety. When we have constant anxiety or stress, out digestive systems are going to reflect that worry. How can a digestive system relax when our minds are so full of worry etc.

I have suffered from anxiety since a very young age. I never took pills for this  and only believe in natural remedies. Lately my sympstoms all point to IBS because of my bowel movements, the feeling of not being finished sometimes, painful hemorroids etc.

I read a lot of testemonials on the web sites that say apple cidar vinegar is a natural remedy to help our digestive systems. Especially those who suffer from reflux acid as well. Some people think they have too much acid but in reality they don't have enough acid to digest food properly which leads to other problems such as IBS and reflux.

On the internet it says those who have IBS should purchase from the natural health food store Braggs, Apple Cidar Vinegar with the mother in it. It says to take 1 teaspoon of Apple Cidar Vinegar and mix it in 8 ounches of luke warm water. Drink it after breakfast and drink it with a straw so the acid vinegar does not get on your teeth. Then it says to drink the same after supper, 1 teaspoon of Apple Cidar Vinegar with 8 oz of luke warm water after supper. If you google the words does apple cidar vinegar help IBS it will give you some facts. I am going to try it myself and see how it works on my digestive system.

But first and foremost, everyone with IBS must work on their anxiety as well. Once your mind is rested and calm your body will follow and relax too. I know this is a true fact because when I am not stressed or have anxiety the bowel movements are much better. Good Luck everyone.
