Dvt stockings

Hi all, can anybody tell me how long I have to wear these DVT stockings. Apart from my legs looking like a school girls!!!  they are very irritating and my legs are so itchy!

i have worn them non stop since my op 9 days ago, surely taking the Fragmin injections will do the trick on there own!

regards

Mark

hi mark

i had to wear the stockings for 6 weeks but I didnt have the fragmin injections. They just gave me aspirin to take for 6 weeks every day.  I tried to remove the injections when i saw my surgeon at 5 weeks but it was a definite no no.

however you are taking injections so not sure as did think if you took the injections you didnt need the stockings. may be check with your surgeon.

Dear mark I used to wear for 8 weaks it made me discomfort But after 3 monthes of post op when I sit more than an hour my leg start swelling and my phsio told me to use it when i sit long

Like Maggie I had to wear mine for 6 weeks and also had dispersible aspirin daily. I put moisturiser on my legs every time I changed the socks and didn't get itching. My skin was very flaky by the end of the 6 weeks though.

should read I tried to remove the stockings (not injections...) sorry mistype

Lol mark. The sexy sto c kings ( so ive been told ) have to be worn for 6 weeks. However my medical team says wear during the day and take off at night. ....and im not on any thinners either. Hey post a pic lol

I never received any and I never was told to wear them, but I wish I did. I had major swelling entire knee, and leg including toes, for about 2 weeks.

I had to wear the stockings just while in hospital also the injections, but when I came home it was just asprin for 6 weeks. I guess everyone is different. Age and fitness might play a part also.    Gillian

Its my last day today of socks and jabs - 30 days! Farewell Fragmin Friday!

Well done. ..party time. ..good luck on your ongoing journey

Thank you all for your advice. I've just looked at my discharge sheet and it says to wear them until I'm fully mobile, so god knows when that'll be!

Best wishes, Mark

I didn't have any swelling nor bruising. In France they wrapped my legs in a long elastic band which I removed in the hospital. Never wore the stockings at all. Did get the shots in the stomach for about 3 weeks.

You can research deep vein thrombosis of the leg if you want. If you are walking I would think it is a very low risk. For added reassurance if you have someone who is helping you they could oil up your leg and give you a leg massage, push the massage in the direction of the heart. During rounds my doctor & the head nurse saw me every day and never said I had to wear the stockings, but mine was done in France.
