E coli

Has anyone been diagnosed with e coli infection because of not emptying the bladder all the way. This caused me to be hospitalized for 7 days. I also had my left testicle swell up to 3-4 times normal size

I have an almost constant risk of e-Coli infection due to incomplete bladder emptying. (Between 150 and 200 mls always remain after natural voiding. I self-catherise once at night to lengthen the sleep periods instead of constant repeat bathroom visits) However, after several blood tests that my GP practice have been doing with me alongside my PSA testing over the years, my GP has told me I have a gradually decreasing number of white blood cells, which makes my resistance lower. I'm going to a Haemotologist next week. I am on prophylactic Nitrofurantoin because of this problem and am OK as long as I take it. I've tried to come off a couple of times but get a uti within two days if I do.

That would be I think Epididymitis. Had it myself, no fun at all. In my case, it started as a UTI when I first started CIC that wasn't treated properly. Do you know what your PVR (retention) is? How many UTIs are you having a year? Incomplete emptying can cause UTIs (as well as other things) and at a certain point should be treated either with medications, surgery or self catherization.

My pvr was 230. I went to the er on the 22 of July because of the infection had a temperature of 103.5 and had wicked hallucinations was in for 5 days then had my terp on the 27 of July was released on the 29 of July. Had a urine test & blood test last week they said the infection was coming back so they gave me some drugs and I went home. So far only 2 infections
