Ear popping/clicking

Hi guys,

hope every1 is well!

Just a quick question, does anyone else expereince like a clicking noise in there 'bad ear' when sort of swallowing? also when blowing my nose my 'bad ear' pops and always feels really blocked and this feeling never goes away, does anyone else experience this?

When my ear is going through a 'full' phase, I do get the funny noises and ear pops.  It is almost as if the ear is trying to sort itself out but just can't manage it.  I hardly dare say this but I have now had nearly 4 weeks of 'good' ear, I have cut out all salt that I possibly can, I make my own food, don't eat anything ready made, including sandwiches, they are full of salt.  Maybe coincidence but for now I only have to cope with high pitched tinnitus, instead of the dreadful roar which I get when I have 'bad' ear.  Not eating salt is hard because it does restrict you eating out and with friends but I am prepared to live with that.

I too have limited my salt intake, at first its tough- I had no idea how much salt is in absolutlly everything! however its v easy to get used to- and cooking everything from scatch is sooooo much healthier anyway! in regards to eating out , id reccomend researching your fave reasurant's and takeaways nutritional menu's (usually available online)- you'd be suprised at how much food is actually ok for us (limiting sodium to 1500g a day), and once you've done your research it becomes fairly easy to remeber what you can eat where!

Thank you for that.  Are you on any medication?

Your more than welcome!  not yet ..hope to sort this though come my next apointment at the Drs are you?    Have a good read of this website (http://www.menieres-help.com/) helped me out alot, think you've truley got to find out what triggers your attacks- make a note/diary entry every time you have an attack no matter how small the attack is- then hopefully a trend will become clear, over time.  tirdness & stress seem to play a big factor for me

Yes that happens to me and both my really bad left ear better ear right can just start clicking without even swallowing !!(this is in addition to all the tinnitus I have )my ENT was not concerned about the clicking ..do you have tinnitus ?

Its nice 2 know someone else experiences this symptom! yeah i have hearing loss in right ear with pretty bad tinitus and 'clicking'.. and good hearing in left with very unnoticable tinitus and  very unnoticable clicking

wish i had some advice about the tinitus but its pretty hard to ignore- during the day i think its best to just keep yourself busy and you kind of forget its there- just at night its a real pain- but it kind of becomes the norm after a while i suppose

i do sometime3s and i love it because it feels like the ear is popping and clearing up ...otherwise it feels like pressure......

Hi That defenitely sounds like you need to pay a vist to a ENT specialist. It may be related to Eusthachian tube dysfunction in some case ... Pl see the doc

Yes I have it and have had since being diagnosed with MD it's called Eustachian tube dysfunction. It's very annoying.

I  went to an audiologist and have been fitted with a Tinnitus masker.  I spent a couple of hours with her and she managed to match my tinnitus, both with the low pitch roar and also the high pitch.  The low pitch also has a hearing amplifier that I can either turn on or off.  I believe the device I have can have up to 6 different settings.  It's amazing and because the noise is external my brain will accept it, whereas when I don't wear it I know I can't control the noise.  Sounds weird but it works for me!

Hi there,

is there any treatment for this, if this was the problem?

Hi there,

thanks for the response! is there any treatment for this problem?

Hi, Not really, I was told by my doctor that gromits can sometimes help? he didn't feel there was much else that could be done. I have another appointment with my specialist in Nov so will find out more then.

Hi what is a tinnitus masker? I have hearing aids which I should wear but can't stand them they just emphasise and amplify all the noises around me so I can't hear anything anyone is saying it also makes my ears hurt.

Hi,  It is a small device which sits behind the ear and a very small (you don't even notice it) soft tube goes into the ear.  The Audiologist will be able to match the tinnitus you are hearing in your head to the device.  The idea is that you will only hear the device and not your own tinnitus and for some reason (psychological) this is much more acceptable to the human brain.  After a while you get used to this external noise and so when you remove the aid, your own tinnitus is far less intrusive.  I hope I have explained it properly.  Are you in the UK?  I went to the Tinnitus Clinic in Cheltenham (the have a clinic in London too).  I was very impressed and they took a huge amount of trouble.  Does this help?

Hi yes this is very helpful I will have to look into this, it sounds much better that my hearing aids, which I find a reel pain. so dont wear anymore.
