Have lost a lot of hearing gradually. Several times while decompressing after plane trip, get a pain and, POP, can hear perfect for several hours. Whats going on?
Dear Dan, it is difficult to give you a simple straight answer at this stage. Your age and your ear history would also be important to know. It is very likely that you will need an ear examination too.
Gradual hearing loss is common with our aging process. As a result of wear and tear of the hearing nerve we struggle hearing a conversation when there is a lot of background noise. A hearing test will be helpful, but the ear examination should be done before that.
Am 66yo. Had war noise back in Vietnam. Nothing special. Lifetime spent in manufacturing. Some loud noise there. Have been to 4 different 'specialists' Had all normal tests and x-rays. No answers there. Told them about good hearing after de-compression. Was told to come in after a plane ride. Also was told that truely deaf cant hear themselves whisper. I can hear myself whisper perfectly. This is annoying, but not life stopping. Ideas?
quite common to suffer on plane flights which decend to quickly
the pain can be very severe, there should only be a temporary hearing loss
ask chemist for suitable nasal spray,
When did you have a hearing test done last time, dan?
It was not a hearing loss. After the pain and POP, hearing was normal for quite a few hours.
About 18 months ago when I decided to try hearing aids. 80percent loss left ear, 30percent right ear. Hearing aids turned out to be a toss-up. Could hear some things better. Could no longer hear amplified sounds. Radio, TV, etc..
