Ear protruding out and lower after cholesteatoma surgery 3 weeks ago. Will this go back to normal?
Hi Talkingdrum.
Yes your ear should return to normal. Mine took about 2 to 3 weeks but everyone is different.
Don't forget your ear is still going to be swollen after that amount of time so that will be causing the ear to look like it is protruding. Even after nearly two months the area around my ear and head still feel different, like a numb feeling but each week seems to help.
Hi Darren,
Thanks for reply.
It's nearly 5 weeks since my op, but still no change. I've been doing some research online and ear should return to normal between 2 weeks, to 2 months depending on how the scar heals.
I hope my ear settles down soon, because it looks odd and out of place.
I had my chloesteatoma removal operation in September 2015 and although the swelling has gone down etc. I am now starting to realise my ears are wonky and sit differently on the side of my face. Is this normal after the surgery as its really lowering my self esteem? Thanks
Hi Zoe,
The symptoms you describe are apparently normal. As I explained in my previous post, my ear is lower and is twisted back, as well as protruding outwards. I've done lots of research online, and the ear is supposed to go back to how it was once the swelling has gone down, but mine still looks the same after nearly 2 months. And it makes me self-conscious of it. My self-esteem has also been lowered.
I understand your frustration. Have you been back to see the surgeon about it? I've got to go back to see mine soon - so I will mention it to him.
Hello thanks for your reply. I did mention it to the surgeon who did my operation and he just laughed it off but I am in contact with a specialist so will defiantly be asking him about it.
No need to worry but always go see a doctor if you are concerned. My ear did not go back to normal for several months after I actually think a total of 4-5 months for mine to be completely back to normal.
Thanks Brian for some reassurance. As mentioned in my previous post I will be going back to see my surgeon soon for a follow up appointment. I will mention this to him.
You're welcome. Wishing you a speed recovery!
