And if so did the vertigo stop after time ?

Yes it did! Inhad gone about something else re a throat at problem and the gp looked in my ears, said they were bit waxy and I needed to get them done, but to spend a week putting olive oil in them, which I did. Went back, had them syringed, and I complained at the time to the nurse doing it that it was hurting quite a bit. Especially the right ear. she ignored me more or less. When the vertigo started, literally overnight. ( initially thought I had a virus) and I started going to gp about the vertigo I raised this point re syringing, he looked in my ears and said eardrum fine, and dismissed it. Since then I have brought it up too but get robbed off, so,I have always wondered. And I a. Sorry to say no it has never gone away. Four years down the line.
John few people I now know ,got their ears Syringed and Gillian is one of them ,others have ended up with tinnitus ,looking back wish they'd not had it done in first place ,miserable condition ,hope yours straightens out What I will say is don't do the Valsalva Manouvre ,that's how another ended up with tinnitus .Regrets that he does .
I had the tinnitus before the syringing, but it feels worse now.
Hiya Gill ,yea right royal pain ,lesson for all leave ears well and truly alone .Tinnitus/ balance together nightmare.xx chat later like the funnys by the way
Sorry to hear that . How bad is your vertigo ?
Thanks Marlene . I will avoid that Manouvre
Can only pass on what we know John. Mistakes we now regret ,if I can prevent just one person getting Tinnitus ,i will be well happy honest .think what your ears do other than hearing.,they affect your balance ,as they send signals to your brain as do your eyes ,so don't think lightly to either .
Let's know if you improve okay ,always good to get feedback to ones condition John .
Well I had that and shortly after got Tinitus and do wonder if that is the reason. Usually if a professional does it that is only temporary. You should go back and get it checked for starters.
Hi HappyHacker .
How long did you have the vertigo for ? . I got the Right ear suctioned on wednesday to remove wax also . Much better and safer procedure . He thought the wax in that ear was causing the vertigo . So I am back to him on monday .
Syringing should be banned
It depends. Tends to build as the day progresses, probably because of the movements, but also worse when tired, which is a catch 22 as the whole conditions is tiring! the more I do the worse it is, but, often it is the next day, and if I have a really tiring day,,it,can last for days after. but it is every day, it,s not ,spells,' like some people, get. Can t read a book, and newspaper only for short bursts as focussing too long aggravates it. Have started to,get travel sickness too, on buses. It,s not that I am unfunctionble, but everything is harder now, and I don,t for eg go,out in the evenings as I am too tired wih it all by then!
Under the new NICE guidelines there deferring Drs from doing it so often ,as surgeries were doing it so frequent .think your skating on thin ice getting it done .thats my opinion and from what I've learnt over time .
I've had it done 1 time couple years ago for an opereration I was going to have ,but I already had balance and tinnitus by then .
Gillian's switched on ,get good advice from her John .
Have word with your dr ,maybe get into having hearing test ,they have now got a machine out that can see crystals in ears out in the USA can't say here in the UK .Do you get any earaches ? That's common with balance probs .I know I do where Eustachian tubes fill up with old mucus that drys .out ,and stays put ,hence the balance gets messed up .
I don't have vertigo or at least very faintly. I got specific dizzy spells in 2013 for 3 months and then all cleared until July this year and got travel sickness type feelings in morning, not all mornings. Had ears cleared then got Tinitus. I am waiting now for ENT appmt. which is not likely until next March unless I go private. I think my Tinitus and slight nausea feelings are separate issues as I had the former as a result of clearing ears and the other was already there. Anyway they are due to different mechanisms in the ear system as far as I can make out but I might be wrong there as it is such a complex system.
Is your problem off balance or do you just feel dizzy all the time . And what other symptoms do you have ?
Im just trying to see if our symptoms match
Is vertigo and feeling off balance 2 different things ?
Not sure is the answer. .dizzynis such a wide term, some say spinning, others rocking, others swaying. I have a bit of the last two, not spinning. It is a dis equilibrium really, where your senses, ie hearing, eyes, brain are not in sync. Some people have it lying down, I don,t. A feeling that your head needs supporting to hold it still. Also after a lot of moving around when I stop it is worse as if im m still moving. and the following day will be feeling rough and need to rest. Vertigo is a symptom not the actual cause. So feeling off balance can be caused by so many things , which is why we need specialists tests. To determine what the cause is
Thanks . Good post .
My symptoms are when I stand still I feel unsteady on my feet .And when I walk I sway slighty . When I sit down I am fine .When I sleep I am fine . When I get out of bed each morning the unsteadiness begins like clockwork .
There is never any dizziness or spinning .
I agree, I would ask your doctor or ENT to check your ears for loose ear crystals. It's possible they dislodged them during the syringing. If they are loose it'll cause vertigo and light headiness. Can be helped by preforming a Epley or Sermont Manuerve, but you first want to know if that’s what's causing you problems. Tinitus is possible too, but usually you have a ringing sound in your ears from that. You never mentioned that, unless I missed it in all the reading through post.?
Hi I've had tinnitus since 96 but it was always low no bother just put up with it so to speak ,then just 9 yrs ago due to illness it went loud big time had ears syringed for neck op ,but had the balance going prior to that .
So I think it's down to blocked tubes ,or the likes .jury's out ,Gillian's put me on to something not known ,so I'm open minded .
Lots with T seem to be having balance ,sinus, earaches ,some I know said after they done the Valsalva ,they ended up with T ,when all they had to begin with was bad sinuses .So that one I will forgo for sure as I suffer Perennial rhinitis .never know if doing right from wrong. My T is the hissing one .
Hi John!
Can you tell me if you're still having issue? I had the same thing done to my right ear in September and I feel horrible. Nothing helps. I try to ignore it but that doesn't work either.
Chavon
Tell me about it. I had my ears syringed for the first time in my life at Drs suggestion (Personally I din't think I needed To) and not long after I came down with something or,other that led,to vertigo symptoms. When I mentioned it to my go at the time, I was poo pooed and told my eardrum was entact so nothing could have gotten in. But it hurt like hell when the nurse did it I my right ear and that's my 'bad' side no, so who knows!!
