East midlands surgeon

Any one on here had surgery In the east Midlands? Or do you guys know of a good surgeon in this area. What should I be looking for how do I know what is the right kind of implant? And can you leave it too long my doc told me just last weekend that it couldn't get any worse? I was told 18mths ago I needed it done but the longer I wait the better to decrease the amount of revisions I need. How do you decide when is the right time? ekk so many questions sure they've been answered before xx

Hi there, I am booked in on the 2nd sept for my THR. I am having a cement less one as I am only 44yrs and I am told they are better than cement, only because when it comes round for a revision they do not need to chip away at the cement to renew it, therefore creating less of a problem. My advice is search on line for the best surgeon in your area and then ask your doctor to refer you to him/her. That's what I did. I am NHS but I opted for the chose and book system that is still available in some areas. Again ask your doctor if it is. This system enables you to chose any hospital you want to go to.

Only you can desidewhen to have it. I am still wondering about mine but I have just got to get on with it.   You could try a steroid injection first. That helped mine. But only lasts for six months. Hope this helps x

Hi Wobbly,

I had hip replacement in East-Midlands, before meeting my carent consulta I spent a good tree years looking for one that I could trust. from the first day i meet him I trusted him and new that he new what he was talikng. I happen to meet 8 peoples who hah joynt replacemen that went wrong and those peoples was directer to him to fix the problem.

Sally make a very good point.

Wobbly ,

I get UR name .. U don't need to be wobbly....it does take at least 8-12 months to get back to UR new normal.. It takes dedication to build muscle now for a easier recovery.

If possible I highly recommend PT TO BUILD muscle and a strong tendon before surgery. I'm not talkin workin out with machines like a gym rat.. Just a good maintenance level for a good recovery after THR.

Do your research.. Ask questions.. And the best advice don't wait TO LONG...until u have bone or tissue necrosis.. U need good healty bone for a successful THR. THE REVISIONS....only mean the cups need replacing from wear and tear, that line the metal or ceramic moving components. The whole implant does not need replacing. See revisions online.

See manufacturers STRYKER..ZIMMER..DUPUY...JOHNSON & JOHNSON..many more...each surgeon has a preference for a manufacturer or type of THR.

PLEASE know that no implant design should have any metal on metal components during joint movement. These r subject to recall..& health problems.

Familiarize urself with all the components manufacturers to better understand the functions precautions and a better rehab . Getting to know whole process the whoe's what's & the why's...

And and yes a epidural is best with sedation.. Follow all the pre & post OP directives..know UR surgeon and be confident with his skills.. It's not how many he THR HE HAS done over the years..but how many he has done reciently...practice in critical.. See other discussions headings  ..on post and pre Op...preparations..

Hi Sally it THR IS A PRESS FIT. and revision doesn't always mean the component is removed from the femor..

remember the bone has grown on to the femor component that's drilled into place and then tapped tightly. This provides a secure and stabilizes the component and THR. TO remove it some times the bone is chizzled or a control break to remove the femor bone component.

usually unless complications .. The revision usually only includes replacing the ball joint cups than line the metal or ceramic movable joint which wears out thru wear and tear.. Like our original joints..

See revision surgery for UR THR online. Ask UR surgeon .

this is a complex surgery with many reasons for revision.. I just don't want everyone thing total revision removing all the THR components is necessary down the line . Revision is a variety of surgery techniques unique to each patient.  Like replacing worn parts..

THR IS LIKE SNOW FLAKES.. NO TWO ARE ALIKE!

Hi I am based in Swadlincote and I had mine done 8 weeks ago at The Nuffield in Derby my surgeon was Tim Wilton he was fantastic , and he really is top of his field ! You can look him up on Google or ask your doctor about him.

i am actually off to see him today for my first check up , personally and I can only say that ! I can't speak highly enough of him.

Good luck x

Wobbly - its going to last a long time by which time the revisions will be smarter - you are just risking eroding the good bones thru bone on bone contact. My mum in law had hers done 25 years ago and now has full set of hips and knees - done at the City Hospital Nottingham. Postponement is a thing of the past and you could die of poor health before you need a revision - looking on the bright side.

Hello, I had mine done in banbury ( west mids I think?) chose the choose and book system, actually my dr recommended banbury Ramsey health trust, NHS and private, cannot recommend highly enough, I must admit I just left things in the hands of the pro's as I'm not one to tell them their job,the only thing I did do was make sure my surgeon specialised in hip surgery and not just orthopaedics in general, I think this is important, I did ask what sort of implant would be used on me but I really do think they know best ( hopefully!) may I ask how old you are ?
