eating disorder recovery

so, I've had eating disorders for about five years now. I had anorexia and bulimia, I used to starve myself, eat food only to spit it out, as well as binge and purge. as of last week, I finally started recovery, but things have been very hard. every time I'd eat, my stomach would get very, very bloated. in addition, I'd experience upper stomach pain so severe I wouldn't be able to move. I'd also experience a similar kind of pain when I used to chew and spit. I'm wondering what causes this, and are there any solutions to this? recovery has been hard and indescribably painful. I'd be confined to bed after I eat for at least an hour or two. I tried to go to school for the first time two days ago but had to leave after lunch because the stomach pains were so bad I couldn't even stand straight. purging seems like the only way to get rid of the pain now, but I don't wanna sink bad into old habits. please help!

Hi margot , sorry you were in such a bad stat of starving yourself . Yet so happy to hear you want to recover and eat like the good Lord intended us to do to stay alive and well . After suffering such a dilemma to your stomach dont expect to eat like you once did before your illnesses . First start out with a bland diet ,with water . Your stomach and intestines will have to adjust to food once again . The best way to do that is eat veggies , fruits first with water to make your food digest more proper . Eat small amounts at a time ,several times a day ,not to over do it at once ,and that should cause less to no pain . After a few weeks ti a month your stmach should be more back in the swing of things , rebuilding acids it need to break down foods that you lost during your illness . After a month start adding meat like fish , turkey and chicken to your plate and milk .. Im sure you need a mutivitamin as well ? With no food staying down your body has got to be lacking in nutrients . A mutivitamin will help rebuild your system . Best wishes on a full recovery , just take it slow and give it time ! Always remember this … If you dont eat , you dont get your recommended vitamins to function , you will die !

Milk is a very bland food to start with; that’s how babies get their first nutrients and then they slowly build up to solids.

Suggest you consult a registered dietition or nutritionist who can give you a daily menu based on your condition.
