Eating humble pie

I saw my surgeon in april. Yes i needed a thr. On the paperwork there was a box stating i would be happy with any of the ortho surgeons that worked with my surgeon. I really wanted my surgeon to do it but if it meant faster op date i would go with anyone. I was assured they were all good. A month later i called as i hadn't heard anything. I found my surgeon had gone on holiday and wasn't back til end of Sept. ..then i will be waiting for her to play catch up.2 days later i was called. ..one if the other surgeons wo u k d take me on and i was to see him straight away. I saw him...he tokd me he was new there...transferred from new Zealand. He didn't have a waiting list. He was a little indian man. He was pleasant but i did feel like id drawn the short straw. He was kind to me as i went into surgery but i still had reservations with the newbie. Tonight after 6 weeks. ...awesome scar... no problem very neat. .. no pain.... i reaearched him as i just found his name on the paperwork i need for my 6 wk check. Oh my goodness hes an ortho trama surgeon. ..has written papers and is a top specialist. And here i was thinking the worst of him and to be honest perhaps a little racist...which im not usually. May i be forgiven. I eat my humble pie and thank god for this lovely man.

Well said Sassy and I bet you feel better too for posting this. This is why I love this forum we can rant and rave, we can confess, we share all the high and lows of our progress and learn from and teach each other.

Really pleased your op was such a success and you are doing well.

What a lovely honest post. I'm sure we are all prone to making such judgements. I'm glad things are going so well for you.

beautiful ......

Love this post Sassybees and so glad you are doing well.

I'll have some of that pie too. I thought that story wasn't going to end well, Indian doctor changing countries. I hope I learned a lesson.

You never no, that's why we don't judge a book by it's cover...Glad all turned out great for you...

The hospital where I work and had my THR in employs a specialist Indian or thou surgeon as a locus to cover holidays in the summer. After that he goes and does the same inNewZealand, the remainder of the year he runs a hospital in India, using some of his payment for being a locum to fund the hospital. He did my husband's hip, awesome man

Don't beat yourself about it, we all make judgements, it's what being human is all about. The main thing is that you're making good progress.

best wishes for your continued recovery.

Steph

Hi Sassy

My sutgeon is also a traumer surgeon and has written loads of papers and does so many operations for the NHS and at least two private hospitals. He really is brilliant..

I am glad he has from the begining taken me on for both hips. He does not allow anyone else to take on his paitents once they are on his books even if it measns waiting. My surgeon is Welsh b ut was trained in England and the USA. He is one of the top surgeons in the country.

I know my next operation will be more difficult now my hip has collapsed but I know I will be in the right hands to fix it the best way.

I am sure you will be forgiven for the way you were feeling. But I have had so many ops and have had the same thoughts about some of those I have come across. So you are n ot the only one. One surgeon I had could not speak a word of English at all. It reallyupset me that some one treating me had not bothred to learn my countries language.and we could not comuniicate.

It's part of human nature to be wary of the unknown - and that includes people from whom we feel "different."  It's wonderful when we are able, as you have, to recognize the fallacy often inherent in that reaction.  How nice of you to share it with us.  Good on you!

Wow, which hosp, and can you reveal his name.  I have the list of top hip surgeons and another compiled by the daily mail.  Think it was 2012/2013 so out of date already. Also have you noticed that since 2012/2013  fewer metal on PU and many more ceramic heads.  Timing, as usual, is everything

I don't think a lot of people outside of New Zealand realise that NZ has a small Indian population, they keep very much to themselves, most of them have come from Fiji over the years for a better life in New Zealand. The children of these families have been sent to the best private schools, at great sacrifice for some families, and then on to university, and are all in the professions, no more shop-keeping for their families. I am proud to be a New Zealander even though I live in Australia, go the All Blacks.
