Hi guys, I’m eight weeks out from my total hip replacement surgery and over the past few days I have been experiencing pain by my incision area. But on the inside. It feels like a ripping sensation. I don’t know if I tore anything in there. I called my doctor but they can’t really help due to this whole covid crap. I was on the floor playing with my dogs now I was told it’s probably not a good idea. And I experience a pain from my knee to my hip. It lasted a few seconds I moved immediately and I thought I was OK. I did call my doctor to tell them what happened they said that maybe I tore some scar tissue or maybe even a ligament. Since that phone call I’ve been experiencing more pain in that area and like I said a ripping sensation. Mostly when I sit down and get up. Just wondering if anybody else has gone through this. Thanks in advance hope everybody is well. Thanks in advance. Marie
Hi Marie. I am also 8 weeks in and was in the ED yesterday after stepping out of the shower. Heard a loud ‘POP’ and felt a lot of pain. Did you hear anything? I had lots of xrays - hip is fine but like you, pain thigh to knee. They said it was probs muscle or tendon damage. Very nervous and uncomfortable now. Ice 20mins / heat 20mins seems to help. Stay off the floor. I hope you are ok - sure your hip is ok, does sound like muscle. It’s a minefield of worry isnt it. Take care xx
I am now 14 weeks post op and I too experienced this. When I sat, I sometimes felt like my incision was about to split open. Not a pleasant experience. I am still aware of my incision now, but that feeling does pass and it can take many months for all the layers to heal. I got up yesterday morning for the first time forgetting that I had even had a hip replacement. 8 weeks is early days, so I wouldn’t worry. Oh, and getting on the floor to play with dogs is something I would still be wary of, even now. Slow and steady and look forward to the day you wake up and forget ; )
Hi there
Not sure if I can be of any help but will do my best to give you an honest opinion.
I had my left THR 2.7 years back and I tell you its not been easy and I honetly feel I am still recovering as things get better very very slowly.
My feelings are that you have possibly caused some slight injury which in your situation will be sore and more importantly very worrying. I would advise you to try your best not to give yourself any extra worries as having THR gives you enough of that. Try find somewhere relaxing where at times yo can try elevate your legs and hips. Continue walking at times on your crutches as long as there is not too much pain as it is important to try get these muscles working again as regularly as possible to build your strength. Also try some ice packs for short periods.
I think your pain will settle down in time just try not to worry about it this is a massive operation you have had so it can take a long time to fully recover.
Keep the faith, I think you’ll get there just don’t expect this too soon!
Gonmar11,
I am amazed you got on the floor to play with your dogs, I think I was about eight weeks before I gently slipped off the settee onto the floor.I was given twelve weeks precautions and did take them as I did worry about dislocation.
Thank you! i spoke to my doc. he said he believes I tore a muscle ugh, cause this is not hard enough . Thank you I hope you are feeling better
Thank You! I think thats my problem. I couldnt walk at all before surgery. So the fact that i was feeling so good . i thought I was super woman. The doc said he thinks I tore a muscle. Great, Right? lol anyway, he started me on muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatories. Its helping a bit. I hope hour doing well. Thank you again
I was told my precautions were for life. I had a tripole hip replacement that is very secure. I just want my life back. I had major back surgery Jan 2019, then this came on right after i started feeling better. I feel like it never ends. Thanks
That is the thing. I forget a lot…lol I had so much pain prior to surgery. That now I dont even think about it. Until, this. Thanks
