Wondered if anyone had a good tip or good excercises for my operated leg thigh muscles. Can stand unsupported on it, but try to move good leg to side and good leg does not move. Also from sitting position raising leg up with knee bent is difficult.
Try lying on the bed with thighs half way up the edge of the bed ( so back of knees, calves and ankles are not supported) then raise both knees towards chest up to the 90 degree point and back to the horizontal. I found this exercise not only good for the thighs but helps the tum and back.
Can you get access to an exercise bike? Using it cured my limp in a week.
Haven't you gotten a referral for a physical therapist? A PT would be able to give you exercises that are right for you. There are many of them.
Hi mrratty,
I had/have the same challenges - Don't force it - if it hurts , stop doing it -
The healing process has started and 8 weeks is still early in recovery - tissue, tendons, muscles etc are still so fragile - do what you can, slowly and again, stop when it hurts -
Your gait might still be off, or you are still unbalanced when you walk unaided -
make sure your posture is straight up and relaxed - wait until you feel balanced, then take steps, heel to toe - lift feet -
There are good videos on you tube regarding walking properly - it makes a diffference, however it is (for me) a slow process -
Use your aid to support you and prevent limping - you are getting there !!!!
Take it easy
big warm hug
