Anyone else delveoped what feels like tennis elbow with PMR? My right elbow is now giving me lots of pain most days and I can not straighten it to the same as my left arm or bend it fully. Going for an x-ray on Tuesday afte rseeing the doctor last week. He said he did not htink it was related but not sure

Hi Alan
Yes I have tennis elbow and golfers elbow(tendonitis) which is the other side of the elbow on both arms.
I also have developed tendonitis of my left hip. I sympathise with you, it's very painful to lift anything. I've had cortisone injections which gave relief for a fortnight but it comes back.
Ice packs help and stretching exercises of the wrist but it's only time that will heal it. My last bout lasted about 8 months. I find it comes back though unfortunately. I've started taking krill oil, curcumin, and shark cartilage tablets hoping this will help 🙂
I have severe (at times) pain in both elbows. It has been the one thing that has never completely gone away even when on the 20 mgs of prednisone. I was diagnosed in December 2015. I have made several attempts since then to decrease the pred and I'm finally at 2.5 mgs and will be stopping completely the end of the month. Since May I have also been taking hydroxychloroquine in addition to the pred and will continue to take only that when I stop the pred. Hoping all goes well. Good luck to you!
Your dropping from 2.5mg/day to zero likely will result in flaring of symptoms and return to a higher dose than 2.5mg.
I would think that after having dropped all the way to 2.5mg that you would have by now encountered the effects of dropping by such a huge percentage within a shrt time, but I have to admit that this is one lesson I have had to learn more than once, alweays the hard way.
After nearly three years with pmr, I am at 4mg for the last few months after having previously reduced to 3mg, then trying to drop to 2mg. I feel that was a mistake, though at 4mg I am very active and will someday have another go at a slightly lower dosage.
I have suffered from it on both of my elbows and both my GP and my rheumatologist say it's not connected to my PMR. But after reading your post and that of others who suffer too I have to wonder if they are wrong.
Hi Dan,
Are you taking anything in addition to the prednisone?? The hope for me is that the hydroxychloroquine (400 mgs per day) along with the prednisone should help with the reduction and hopefully coming off the pred. I had been at 2.5 mgs once before and wound up going back to 5 mgs. That was also before the hydroxychloroquine. I hope I'm more successful this time. Thank you .
I have only just taken the pred, but have a prescription for the Plaquenil.
I just started with the fall season bicycle racing so will not be taking any new meds for now.
Yep! I had pain in my right elbow for about a month and I blamed it on the fact that I had been shoveling snow off the roof of my car. Brought it up to my Rheumatologist two weeks after the pain didn't go away and she retested me for RA but it came back negative. Two weeks later it just went away. To this day, I don't know what really caused it. What I do know is that PMR is full of surprises in terms of where it will strike.
Yes, I had pain and swelling in my right elbow and could not connect it to anything I had done. It only lasted about one week and went away. I have had long monthly bouts of pain and swelling in both ankles, shoulder, neck, hip, knee, wrist pain, and tendonitis in multiple places. I'm still dealing with a very stiff neck, but no swelling or tendonitis right now anywhere. My pain level was at an 8-9 when I started a detox program. This was a diet of fruits and vegetable diet with a lot of natural suppliments while maintaining a 5mg Pred. After a month, I went down to 2.5mg for a week then stopped Prednisone and I was completely pain free. I have remained off now for over 8 weeks, though I am still abiding to the fruits and veggy diet, with meat occassionally, adding also grains and nuts and I continue doing very well.
