My mom had a blood test done 3 weeks ago and her liver enzymes were at over 400 (45 is normal). She had a sonogram and they couldn't conclude anything, tested her for hepatitis and that was negative, and now have referred her to a specialist who scheduled and MRI. They're not giving her any info and of course we are all worried. She's not in pain and is not jaundice. Does anyone have any insight on what this may be? Thank you!
Then someone in your family or a friend, who is forceful should demand to know what the prognosis of her condition.
Does she drink?
They can't say anything because they don't officially know... I believe anyways. Nope, not a drinker at all
IT is almost certainly that the doctors cannot tell you rather than will not tell you. I was in a similar position in June. A CT scan showed there was a problem with my liver but the doctors did not know what so I had an MRI scan late June when they were able to come up with three possible diagnoses. I then had a further specialist test called ERCP in July after which I was told I had a rare genetic disease of the liver. The doctors could not tell me what was wrong until the ERCP. The liver enzyme tests only tell you something in the liver is not working properly not why or what. The key thing is you must keep asking questions of the doctors.
Hi I'm sorry your mums blood tests are showing some raised LFTs but to be honest unless you have the actual test result to hand and it says which enzyme is raised it could actually turn out to be nothing that would cause a problem, can I ask why were the tests carried out to start with, what are your mums other health issues and her age.
You say she doesn't drink, is your mum a healthy weight and how are her cholesterol levels, is she on any long term medication, liver function can and is effected by many things not always really bad.
