Just an update. Ive been lucky so far in that I can still eat with lots of water and I havnt lost weight. However past 8 weeks ive been getting hot flushes and headaches which i thought could be early menopause. tests at g.ps show no indication of this .We now think it could be related to deteroration in condition and all the water im drinking. He is going to see if this resolves after the op next week.
I had to blend fruit for a smoothie this week as I cant eat fruit and craved it.I have also been feeling nauseus and being sick for past few weeks.
Im pleased im having op next week as things are starting to get worse and its frightening.
Thanks to Vicky and others for their post op experiences.
Ive been very lucky with n.h.s. They have put me straight in for op.Hellers myotomy with fundoplication while my sympoms are not too much of an inconvenience. I relly feel for you as I can see what my future woild be without the op.Dessy have you had any ops aside from your gastrostomy.
I have just had my operation for achalasia.I went in and had operation last Wednesday at 3 pm. It took 3 hours. I had Hellors Myotomy with fundoplocation.Unfortunately my stomach was perforated. A risk I knew about. so I ended up staying in hospital until Monday. My surgery was initially as a day case.
I came back with a fluid infusion as I was nil by mouth for 24 hours.then I was able to have cold fluids for 4 days until tuesday. (Water, fruit juice and cold tea) Fortunately I didn't have much of an appetite.
I was given IV pain relief morphine and paracetamol which both together were effective. Saturday they gave me Tramadol analgesia also, again very effective.I was given oromorph, tramadol and paracetamol orally from sunday. For discharge I was told to take tramadol and paracetamol.Im not allowed tablets or anything fizzy so paracetamol has to stand a while
My four wound sites have healed well although I did have a reaction to the plasters.
It hasnt been a bad experience as long as my pain is controlled.I was needing something 2 hourly.
Since i come home I am now still taking 2 hourly painkillers .I started pureed foods on tuesday so have bought a blender. I can have no lumps for 3 weeks.I have lost 8 lbs in weight in a week.I hadnt lost anything prior to op as my condition wasnt as bad as some ive read about.
So far im glad ive had the op.My swallowing feels much better even with my limited intake.I know im always going to have to be careful as this could reoccur but i might be one of the lucky ones.
I am still sore and aching around wound area.It is still sore to drive too much.
I can now eat my foods a bit more formed (mashed potato, shepherds pie) after my sloppy blended diet. Hooray I am desperate to chew. I have now lost nearly a stone in almost four weeks.
I have been put on the urgent waiting list for my op, but I had a baby 5 weeks ago. How much does the after care affect your day to day life. Will I be able to still hold my baby? Any advice from those who have had the op will be appreciated.
Hi I hav been reading ur progression to. congratulations.
Im 5 weeks post op now and have a sprightly 2 year old as well as 2 older children. Apartfrom my stomach being sore. I have managed to care for him fine, esp when hes running at me.its amazing how u protect yourself.
It felt to me like id just had a baby again when u feel tired and a bit weak and a bit guarded and all u want to do is rest. Difficulty is missing them when ur in hospital but it enabled me to rest.
Thank you very much Ellis for your advice. I also have an active toddler, as well as the little one. Please let me know how you get on with your swallowing.
Hi im over 7weeks post op now.two of my wounds opened and have just recently healed, they were painful.
Im eating most things but in smaller amounts. I feel as though Ive had a tummy stapling. I still have problems with some foods, mainly things that are stodgy, cant manage bread, nuts, but where before I would drink water i just stop eating and try something I can eat. Eatingsmaller amounts and chewing more helps and using a little spoon, means u dont put so much in your mouth.
My tummy aches and gets sore in the afternoon .. and I just want to rest. I dontknow why this is.so Im still taking four hourly pain killers.
This is a long drawn out recovery and im fed up but im getting there. Im going back to work this week.
Is this similar to others recovery? Will this aching subside eventually.
I can eat anything i want although im having to have a glass of water with my meals.toast pots are getting stuck. but still totally rate this op.
following my op ive had chronic pain across ny diaphragm area, consultant doesnt know why and hasnt been much help, still on painkillers and now addicted, so weaning off, again with no medical support.but as im weaning my pain increasing, its related to exercise, not swallowing.
its about 20 per cent of what the pain has been, but is totally restricting my life.
has anyone else had a similar pain, its not acid (dont get any),
