Embarrassing moment !

Yesterday I took my twin granddaughters aged two and a half to a local shop to choose sweeties. Of course they were on the very bottom shelf so I had to crouch down to choose. But then I couldn`t get up. My arms had no strength to pull and my legs had no strength to push myself upright. I had to yell for my husband to come in (he was guarding the

dollies pushchairs outside.) I`m sure people thought I was drunk as he hauled me up like a sack of potatoes. Is this the PMR or the result of the steroids ? Shebob

Hi shebob

You are lucky your husband can lift you, I don't think mine would be able to with all the weight I have put on.

We have been out today to buy a small spring that goes in our double glazed back door lock. They want to sell us a new door.

You should see us- I have to go in with him as he cannot hear what they say and I need him to help me up the steps. So you think you have a problem. Ha! Ha!

Today is not one of my best days, walking as if I am drunk and have aching arms, pins and needles in my fingers. But tomorrow could be much better.

We shall get there aventually, have done my first year.

Keep smilling everyone.

Shebob - I bet we've all got some embarrassing moment stories to tell, but what a good job your husband was around.

It brings back memories of when a childhood friend came down from Co Durham to visit a couple of years ago. I went to get some old family photos from another room to show her - I quickly bent low down to get the album and, in my excitement, forgot I couldn't bend down low! Alas, I was at the point of no return and landed on my bottom, back to the door and facing the tv about 6 inches in front of me. I yelled out for my husband who came in and said \"What the hell are you doing down there\" to which I replied \"watching telly, what do you think\"!!!

My worst experience though was going to post a letter one evening (undiagnosed PMR was almost in remission at the time), tripping over a kerbstone and landing flat out. I managed to get to a sitting position on the ground by grabbing a broken brick wall and remained there until someone caught me in the headlights - I'm sure if anyone else had noticed me previously they probably left me for drunk! However, this kind samaritan and his daughter hoisted me up and took me into their home for a cuppa and rang my husband - it's a good job he was grey before I was diagnosed, the shocks I have given him!

One important lesson I learned from this last experience was to have my mobile 'phone with me at all times in the future - in fact my husband won't let me go for even a 5 minute walk without it.

Spammy - congratulations on doing, as you say, your first year but sorry to hear that you're having a bad day and I do hope you've been able to rest up and that it's a better one tomorrow.

May everyone else out there also have better tomorrows!

Ooooh, yes! One of my worst moments was getting caught in the local shopping centre. Bearing in mind it's only a 5 minute walk from where I live (well, 15 - 20 if you've got PMR) and I had staggered up there just to pick up some cat food, all was fine until I was literally minutes from home when my back went also - that's an old problem, I get a trapped nerve - and I couldn't move! I couldn't take a step either way because I couldn't put any weight at all on my right leg - I couldn't even get to a very inviting seat just steps from where I was standing like an idiot.

I was very lucky because someone I knew passed by and obviously thought there was something wrong, so asked me if I was OK. When I explained, she helped me home.

I also take my mobile phone everywhere now!
