Emergency Open Myomectomy

Had emergency surgery Jun 8 2017. Came to ER with passing of clots one after the other almost every 10 minutes. Prior to speculum exam, I passed a grape cluster which showed my bleeding was getting worse! The exam was traumatizing as I'm small & they don't have the proper size speculum. I was in agony! They did this not once but 2x!

Thankfully I was transferred upstairs and admitted. My blood count was hecked subsequently three times. The third time I was low enough for 2 units of blood!  Got an ultrasound & baffled the doctor! I had grown a 9cm fibroid within a span of two months since my hysterscopic myomectomy (which I suspected would never be as efficient as the open route).

I was on Lupron for the hysterscopic presurgery and it successfully shrank the fibroid from 8cm to 4cm. Doctor said was able to take "everything" out. However, it appeared the Lupron may have shrunk some hidden fibroid tissue that grew in response to stress? (Can stress have a factor?) I was extremely stressed during a very toxic 2.5 weeks before admission to hospital for my emergency surgery.

I get tired at times and have taken naps, often opting to stay indoors after a previous day of doing too much the day before.

Three weeks in I had two days of feeling nauseous & dizzy, & have experienced some possible referred gas pain felt in scapula and shoulder as well as pain in groin area. Sometimes it seems to get relieved when passing gas or passing stools as well as urinating.

However, I also experience sometimes lower back pain. But is that because of prolonged sitting? (I like to play video games as a distraction from my problem). Max I'll sit is two hours (so I'm thinking that's a factor too).

Anyone have similar problems?

ANyone ever have a "fibroid on steroids"? (inexplicably fast growing fibroid)

After reading, I can see where there can be some confusion. I got an MRI to confirm the ultrasound reading showed a new 9cm fibroid! (Worried possible cancerous tissue, but pathology was benign).

Going in OR, the senior anesthesiologist asked what was my hemoglobin. I said around 8 but he looked concerned saying out loud that I didn't look like 8.

The MRI prior surgery felt like a jack hammer during the final image & I feel it "woke up" the fibroid into a new bleeding spell. (I was placed on a BID hormone while waiting for MRI to get done to slow my clots and bleeding). But after the diagnostic procedure, I started passing more clots upon arrival to my room, nearly passing out! I felt so weak. So that's probably why the anesthesiologist was concerned.

I had a lower blood count as expected at 6 after surgery and had to get a post procedure transfusion of another 2 units!

Recovery felt good by end of two weeks, but three weeks has had it's ups and downs.

Tired and need rest in between even napping at times. (Sorry if I'm repeating myself. I'm tired)>

Sounds like a terrible experience, hope you recover well now and no more fibroids! Sounds like something was missed in your first surgery, can't believe any fibroid would have grownTHAT fast. I had an MRI too when I had a Degenerating fibroid and uncontrolled bleeding. I found it incredibly painful as the 'cradle' they put on you was pushing down on my abdomen the whole time, the noise and vibration goes right through you and yes my bleeding was terrible afterwards.

Oh gosh yes that jack hammer MRI, great description. I had one 2 months ago for suspected ovarian cyst. Now you say about the bleeding after,  I've only had spotting every two weeks for the past 6 months. Then a week after the MRI I had a full on period with clots and flooding!

Wishing you a speedy recovery and hope you soon regain strength and are less tired. Take care, look after yourself x
