Ladies I want to let you know that Emuaid is not as innocuous as it seems. I've been using it for 3 weeks and now I have red, raw irritated skin. Two Gyn doctors have told me it will take several weeks to heal this! So just be aware of this. It's not a miracle cure! I have proof of that!
Many of the so called creams on the market that put claims to help LS especially if just herbs mixed will oils have made me weary over the years, so sorry that this has created more to cope with. I have used diaper cream for years which help dry the up the patches as maintence . Foam steroid or steroid creams is the only successful treatment used sparingly.
Yep. I'm real leery now of posts that state this or that cream cures LS. Maybe for some it works. But from now on I'm sticking with Dr. recommended creams. And no, I had not told my doctor what I had used until the visit was over.
Thank you for your kind words.
About all the creams, ointments and meds...I've found that you don't need to apply everyday. I use Emuaid...regular strength, not extra strength. I use it only when I have a tear or rubbed area only once, then I use Virgin Coconut cream to keep softness to the skin as it heals and a very light coating of Desitin to keep dampness away. Give your creams a break too....cleaning the area with just warm water, no soap. Dry. Sleep with no panties.
I think it really depends on the individual. Emu oil works for me but not as well as essential lavender oil. That works really well. Coconut oil makes me too hot down there and causes me to itch. Borax is a miracle powder.
What works for one, may not for others. Many on here find coconut oil helpful. It irritates my skin. Emuaid has been SO helpful to me but obviously it doesn’t work for you. It’s trial and error and the product that is so helpful may suddenly cause irritation. Rotation of products seems important.
I do find Emuaid sometimes irritates my clitoris. As does steroid cream. To get on top of clitoris soreness I need to use steroid ointment versus the cream. With time you develop a bit of a pattern that works (sort of). In the beginning it’s confusing and scary and hard.
Hang in there. I don’t think anyone should claim to have the cure for LS.
Unfortunately, LS has flare ups. It can feel like it’s gone but it’s usually only a matter of time till it rears it’s ugly head. It helped me once I accepted my condition. Took awhile and I was a MESS about it for quite some time.
I still struggle with it but it’s easier than it was.
I have been told by two Gyn doctors that it could be a very bad allergic reaction. So it may NOT be Emuaids fault. But again, it's not a definite easy fix. Just be aware of this! Now I can't use my Clobetasol to keep LS at bay. Not till the blisters are gone. And I have a tear, so I'm in tears. This is very bad pain. 😢😯
Thank you Sandra. That's been very comforting to me. Sorry for your difficulties though. I'm very depressed by the whole med/ointment thing. What to use when and dealing with constant pain from blisters and reaction of Clobetasol on blisters! What can I do to heal the skin so I can use Clobetasol safely!! I'm so lost. Debi
I guess now I'm afraid to use anything! The blisters are very painful and the Clobetasol makes them hurt even worse!!
Thanks. I will try all that you have suggestions. Prob later when blisters are gone. Thank you. Yes I do sleep with no drawers on. 😂
Oh Debi sweetheart I am so sad you are in pain
Bliddy ugly sneaky painful 👹LS
Sometimes Clobetasol is too intensive to treat LS. Even during nasty flare up, I learned this from experience
My consultant Prof Kehoe advised me to use Betnovate ointment, which is a notch down from Clobetasol and for me it worked. Almost immediately I had relief Debi maybe it could work for you too 🙏🏻
Sending love x
Thank you very much Sedg and others here for your kindness. It's so confusing to know what will work and not cause more pain. I am going to ask my Gyn for the Betnovate. Maybe that will not burn but keep the LS at bay. My tears have stopped thanks to your compassion Sedg and all of you that responded to me. Thank you. 💖💖☺
You know Debi I was diagnosed with LS almost 17 years ago with several years of remission.
LS has a life of its own 👹 condition.
Following a very candid discussion with my specialist Prof Kehoe he confirmed there is no cure just management.
Now finding out what works for individuals is the tricky bit. Tho from my experience keeping it simple has proved best. Which is why I use wash with Dermol 500 and now moisturise with same and apply a little Betnovate ointment couple times a week to keep area stable.
The big difference for me in the past six months has been eliminating sugar, dairy and processed food as near as dammit. All these foods are heat producing which in my opinion help LS to thrive
There was a lady on here called George and she was concerned at what to eat. I use coconut milk in coffee and cereals (still have yellow capped milk in tea) 🤭
Fresh fruit n veg Chick fish turkey and only very occasionally red meat, wholemeal most things like pasta bread and eggs. Also use coconut oil for cooking and on toast marmite 😋etc
Personally I have gone off eating red meat Pork because my daughter told me pigs don’t sweat so it all goes back into them urgh 🤢
basically Debi I believe from experience we can help our bodies from the inside by eating good clean food and externally by keeping it simple.
I do feel sometimes like I am both repeating myself and preaching somewhat but I’m not.
I wish I had been aware of this forum and had Prof Kehoe as my specialist at the offset of this dastardly cruel condition then maybe I would not have suffered like I did
It over now though and to finish off Prof told me that LS can just STOP so maybe that is when you are mindful of what you eat and outside what you use 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hope you can take something from this sweetheart and I am sending healthy wishes that you find your HaPpY management formula
🤗X
Hi Debi
Nothing cures LS we just have to find ways to control it.
Tina x
Yep, there is no easy fix... just controlling the symptoms. No more quick fixes for me.
I think many of us start out the treatment plan with some trial and error. Things not working etc. I panicked a lot at the start. My LS simply exploded for awhile. It was terrifying. But with time, I believe you will figure out what works etc.
Have you tried emu oil? I found it to be gentle and it worked well. For awhile. But I start reacting to almost every product eventually, but can go back to them again. Coconut oil is the one that comsistantly gives me trouble. Very disappointing as so many seem to have success with it.
Don’t despair. This forum helped me so much after my diagnosis. I’ve learned far more on here than from my gynogolgist.
Oh and... clob is very strong. My gynocologist has me on a weaker steroid. Maybe that would be helpful? Also, ointment seems to be better tolerated than cream.
me too! please share info if you locate remedy.
About the steroid creams the docs have prescribed: Note the instructions (on line) for Clobetasol or Betamethasone (which is what my GYN prescribed me): " Use this medication on the skin only. However, do not use it on the face, groin or underarms unless directed to do so by your doctor. " It's a very sensitive area we are applying this stuff to and it's more for use on outer skin conditions like psoriasis, dry skin areas. They obviously don't have a medication cream made to be used on the vagina area. Hence, experimenting with oils and creams are necessary for all to share, to come up with something that will work in that area! Stick together. LS is happening for young women but for us menopausal women, I'm seeing it's a normal condition, especially if you are having sex on a regular basis. As you age, your skin thins. Thinner skin rubs raw when damp or dry. Keep a good look out with a mirror to keep up on the rubbed areas. Even if it looks horribly red, leave it without creams once in a while to give the area a break. More is not better. And just speaking for myself, biopsies can be very damaging as the area does not heal well. Doctors are still trying to figure out what to do so they turn to "this can be cancerous." Follow your instincts but heed caution. Google everything!
