My lymph nodes in neck, armpit anf groin have been enlarged for 9 months. Am very breatless and itch at night. Also have raised red rash on knee that comes and goes. Could this be lymphoma.
Hi, you can a simple opd procedure called Fine needle aspiration cytology to get to know about the enlarged lymph nodes
Hi Joan. The enlarged lymph nodes, itching and breathlessness could be lymphoma. Having said that it could also be one of numerous conditions with similar symptoms. What you MUST do, immediately, is make an appointment with your GP and ask for a lymph node biopsy. This is the only way lymphoma can be ruled out. If it is lymphoma the earlier treatment starts the better, and if it's not than your mind will be put at rest. The important thing is to get a diagnosis NOW. Good luck and keep in touch, we're here for you.
Thank you. I will see Gp tomorrow to be referred to heamatologist. I have been seeing a chest spcialist since last Oct. She sent me for a biopsy of lymph node under scan control, but the Dr wouldnt do the biopsy as she didnt think i had signs of lymphoma. I am going to ask to go to a different hospital. Will let you know how i get on.
Thank you. I am going to ask to be referred to a heamatologist tomorrow
Hi Joan. That is appalling! You are doing absolutely the right thing asking to go to a different hospital, you need that biopsy and obviously your chest specialist thought so too. You need to get that referral, keep in touch.
Will let you know what happens
You need a best chest specialist.
I have been seeing a chest specialist 10 months now and still no diagnosis
have been referred as urgent to haematologist
Excellent. He'll soon get to the bottom of it. Keep us up to speed and good luck.
I have an appointment 18th August
Hi Joan, that's brilliant! Only 9 days to wait which is really good. Please let me know how you get on.
Will do. They are putting blood forms in post so they have results in time for appointment.
Excellent. All bases covered then. Once you know the diagnosis you can get treatment and deal with it. You'll feel more positive then.
Will they do the biopsy at the 1st appointment
Hi Joan. Going by my own experience I would say it's unlikely but I don't know. I found that the doctor talked me through it on the first appointment and I had the biopsy the following week. I think normally doctors like to see the patients at an appointment to prepare them for treatment. A biopsy is absolutely nothing to worry about, I had mine done under a local anaesthetic and went home shortly after. Couldn't even call it a day out lol. I got the results a week after that. Keep your chin up, it will all work out.
Heamatologist didnt think lymph nodes where big enough for lymphoma. Thinks it may be sarcoidosis. He has ordered a ct scan with contrast. This should show up either lymphoma or sarc. He asked me about my family history of cancer. Once he gets results of scan he will refer me back to chest dr where I am going to ask them to biopsy lungs.
Well it looks as though they're heading in the right direction and when all the tests are completed at least you'll know what you're dealing with and can start treatment. Good luck and keep in touch.
I have been diagnosed with stage 1 sarcoidosis. No treatment needed. Have been reffered to a cardiologist to rule out angina. I have been told to stay active
