ENT in UK

Hi all,

Have any of you in the UK been given a diuretic as part of your treatment?

And how high a dose of betahistine have you been given?

Thanks

Sarah

Hiya Sarah hope you are keeping well I'm on 8 a day wich is highest dose I can have I've had md 4 45 years and been on duretics 4 25 years

Hi, thanks for your reply.

Oh why can you only have 8? I’m on 16mg TDS.

My GP told me today he had never heard of anyone being out on a diuretic for MD? Xx

I'm on 3 x 16mg a day. No diuretic been prescribed. Although my chiropractor recommened bear berry extract, which works as a diuretic, which I take twice a day

He told me 8x16 mg was highest dose I can have I've also had injection in both my ear drums which have not worked 4 me but have 4 others I've been on duretics to keep the fluid down in my middle ear if I happen to miss any I certainly know about it

I'm not in the UK but diuretics are usually the first medicine ENT doctors in the USA prescribe for MD patients.  I take 50mg diuretics daily + 16mg betahistine four times/day (64mg total).  I also use two nasal inhalers for non allergic rhinitis that can be a trigger for tinnitus, ear fullness and vertigo.  Almost 50% of MD patients have either allergies or non allergic rhinitis.  If you are one of them you have to find a way to manage your allergic reactions.  If I had a doctor that will not prescribe diuretics for MD patients I would find a different doctor....one who understands how fluid buildup can effect inner ear functions

Do you find that helps at all?

I have spoken to 3 GPs now and none will prescribe diuretics because they’ve ‘never heard of it being used for that’

So fed up now that spending £250 on a private consultation seems the only answer!

I can’t be left like this.

Tanney can you give me a run down of your treatment hx with this please?

Thank you
