I had an epidural injection for pain relief last Wednesday. My back pain has subsided very well but I am still experiencing nerve pain down my left leg. Does anyone know if this is normal?
It is my first epidural, so I am not sure if this is normal, and how long do i have to wait before the pain goes away.
Sorry to say Lesley but it probably won't. Epidural injections tend to be given for back pain. Nerve pain is a whole different ball game.
I had one 6 months before my last op and it made me worse for 6 weeks. It's hit or miss with these jags.
Hopefully you'll get some relief from your back pain for 4-6 weeks but as I said, don't count on your leg pain being any better.
Hi Lesley, my injaction work only few days and back to normal pain let me know how is go. Any Styroad injaction devlop in eye cataract and I m diabetic with ratina in eye so they not give every 4/6 month. Many people it not work as well only weeks they do.let me know how is with u. Yes, injections are a steriod which is an anti-inflammatory. They will help pain from inflammation sometimes for a short time and sometimes fit a longer time and you may need to have a couple more. You are up to three in one year. Now the pain in the back of your leg could be coming from a pinched nerve. The injection may help very little. Sometimes this pain will go away with physical therapy and sometime it won't. The only thing is to have surgery to take the pressure off the nerve. I had the same problem but did the opposite. I had a micro-distectomy which did help the nerve pain. I felt good for a short time on the back but now the back pain Is back and the leg pain is gone. ... There is a hit ot miss with back problem. .Sorry that the news is not great. Try some physical therapy for now. Good luck! !
Hi Lesley , sorry to hear you have an increase in pain..is it normaL? well i according to what i read yes it can be,along with a few other things. And i was told it normally helps leg pain but not back..depending on what condition it is meant to treat.
I was due to have last thursday..i read up on them,probable success rate for my condition;side effects,possible things that could go wrong, longevitity, and i decided to decline,the success rate was too low for me in comparrison to side effects and risks. So i soilder on. I hope you get the relieve you seek ,and if youre worried about leg pain contact the hospital that did it or give it a week longer..i do believe it canbe a normal reaction . best wishes a friend in pain
Those shots don 't work, I've had 24 of them. They don't work for anyone I know that had them. You might get some relief for a few days. At best, they can knock down the pain some, but won't fix it.
I have seen people crying in pain after these. The injection ends up placing pressure on the nerve and making it hurt worse. So for some people it exacerbates the situation. Sometimes thery give you so much Lidocane they just end up numbing things for a while. You are probably headed for surgery. Get a nerve conduction study performed first, to help verify which nerve is pinched NMT.
