Errection Problems

hi I have been taking Tamsulosin and Finasteride on a daily basis for over 12 months due to enlarged Prostate this has as advised by GP affected my errection and ejaculation ( being silent )

I understand that viagra cannot be taken with these two drugs has anyone any advice on an alternative medication to help ?

I take generic viagra with tamsulosin with no issues.

I haven’t been told to avoid the combination of Viagra with either Tamsulosin or Finasteride. I don’ t have both the latter at the same time, though. Maybe all three together is what you’ve heard?

Cialis is prescribed for ED and BPH so maybe it would be worth a try if you’re concerned? I prefer it over Viagra anyway.

Years back I took both Flomax and Finasteride.  I encountered low libido in my early 50s, ED,  virtually no ejaculate and some retrograde ejaculation.  I think these side effects aren't uncommon, unfortunately.

As I understand it, Tamsulosin (Flomax) and Cialis both are alpha blockers which relax muscles around the urethra to allow better urine flow.  Finasteride is a 5AR inhibitor that blocks conversion of testosterone to DHT, and so over time it can shrink the prostate up to 30%.

I wish I could tell you that natural alternatives work.  I've researched and tried almost all of them, including Chinese herbs and topical progesterone to combat estradiol levels.

For BPH, our options are meds or the various surgical options out there.

For now, I advise you to eat organic, cut 100% of dairy from your diet, research xenoestrogens and endocrine disrupters and eliminate exposure as much as possible, cut back on eggs (organic free range) to no more than 2 per week, reduce red meat (grass fed only) to 2 servings per week, drink green tea in place of coffee, eliminate beer completely, and do pelvic floor exercises.

Hoping that will help some.

God bless you.

Michael

Many thanks for the advice

Substitute the tamulosin for cialis.

A number of people on this site have indicated that certain prostate treatments like urolift and, I think, HoLep can solve prostate problems without resulting in sexual problems.

Hi. My GP told me that sildenafil (generic Viagra) could be prescribed for me as I was stable on tamsulosin and finasteride. I had to stop taking finasteride eventually as it caused me to have palipations. I still take tamsulosin and sildenafil.

RE is almost certain with HoLep, but not with Urolift. Hank

I think you can research this online, my understanding is that Finasteride is the culprit for ED - Tamsulosin will not do that, but it will cause RE. You can take Cialis together with Tamsulosin - I don't know about together with both Tamsulosin + Finasteride. Finasteride is a nasty drug if you already have that side effect you should stop it right away. My nephew took it for hair loss, low dosage, young virile guy in his 20s and it caused ED for him. Took a while till it came back after he stopped, not sure how long.

I think surgeons will prescribe Finasteride when they see you are scared of surgery, or they hope it will shrink it and you'll be happy or it will make surgery easier.

Hank appears spot on.  HoLEP will have sexual side effects.  Urolift will not. Neither will PAE or FLA.

I've encountered drug induced RE.   It's very unpleasant and robs sex of almost all pleasure.  My experience only; can't speak for other men.

Finasteride can buy time for BPH if surgery has become imminent.

Also, with 25-30% shrinkage of the prostate after 6 months, it can make the selected procedure faster, easier and with less complications.

Many urologists will not prescribe Finasteride because of the added risk of high grade cancer, Gleason 7-10, based on the massive study two decades ago, CPCT (I think that's the correct acronym - I can't look it up now as I'm writing this from my phone).

Do you have incontinence or retention?

I started to take tamulosin to reduce the pressure of my prostate on my bladder.  But it increasingly caused erection problems or delayed ejaculation, so I have stopped it some months ago.  To help with ED, I use cialis 20mg or levitra 20mg.  Viagra does nothing for me.  To cope with the prostate problem, I had 2 months ago a PAE procedure (I did not want any of the surgical interventions discussed on this board) to restrict blood to the prostate and cause it to shrink.  It appears to be working as peeing is now much less frequent

I changed Urologists!   Why would anyone prescribe finisteride to any sexually active male.

My understanding is that added risk of high grade cancer, study was proven wrong. I'll try to find the article

I asked for finasteride. Better that than TURP.

It was proven wrong all right. Finasteride shrinks the prostate so the cancer cells, the same amount, crowd all together more, giving the illusion of higher grade of cancer. Hank

Sounds to me like finasteride can help with prostate cancer detection.

It's called PCPT for Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial.

Not CPCT.  Sorry.
