Escitalopram: fine, not fine, fine, not fine... HELP!!

So, new to this drug after an abortive effort with Sertraline. Initially it was fab. Then it got wildly inconsistent - fine for 4 day’s, bad for 3. Spent 8 weeks on initial 10mg and then docs three days ago increased to 20mg. Don’t want to give up just yet as it’s- on the whole - been positive. But sleep is totally jacked and it’s killing me (long time insomniac, hence depressive mood. Depressed because you can’t sleep or can’t sleep because you’re depressed? The eternal question). So should I stay or try something else? How long shall I wait? And does anyone else have on/off days? And if so, doesn’t that mean it’s not the right medication?  I’m not after euphoria but some consistency would be nice. Thanks lovely people.

From what I have experienced with Lexapro, it took me 7 weeks to finally feel somewhat normal.  I would have good days and not so good days and finally the good days out numbered the bad.  I wanted to give up a few times because the side effects are not fun at all but I kept reading on this sight that it takes time, so I gave it time and it paid off.

If it's on the whole positive then it's working for you. After my first eight weeks I had a dip then resumed fine. I got better and better as the months passed. I usually suffer insomnia personally I took it at night which helped me sleep. Try taking it in the morning till that side effect wears off

Aw bless you. Wise words. It’s a lonely battle at times that only people like yourself who are on this medication understand. Just one final question, do you still take the meds at night? Currently taking mine in the AM but might swap times if it helps with sleep. Thanks again for your feedback.

Thanks Susan. It really helps for feedback like this. The road to recovery is at times a lonely and scary endeavour. It seems time is the only cure. Thank you.

Yes I take mine at night and they wipe me out!smile
