Estrogen Creme

Has anyone else used the vaginal estrogen Creme Premarin after or before bladder prolapse? After you read all the warning signs it's like why should I use this! Doctor says percentage that gets in your bloodstream is minimal. Says helps strengthen walls of vagina. Anyone use? I'm supposed to do twice a week. Haven't started yet!

I used the pessaries to strengthen the walls of my vagina prior to surgery and I always think it's a good idea.  Your doctor is absolutely correct, very little gets into the blood stream if any.

Diann, just look at the Vagifem site - that is vaginal estrogen, and there are all the warnings there about endometrial cancer.  I used it for a couple of years (at three times the recommended dose for 16 months, and then got endometrial cancer) and it didn't do anything for me at all apart from give me a load of irritation and a heavy discharge.  The biggest difficulty was using the applicator when there were prolapses - I kept wondering if I was damaging the skin with it.

Thanks!

Am using Vagifem for another condition but it's the same stuff.  Estrogen only HRT has few side effects if not taken orally and locally applied estrogen  like you and I have been given is very safe because, as Matron says, so little gets in the blood stream.

I hated the pessaries as the base used to mix with oestrogen content was oily and horrid and spread all over inner thighs once dissolved inside. So at changed to the Ovestin cream you put in applicator and much prefer it. I used for 3mths prior to surgery. My Urogynae recommends use for 3mths on & 2mths off. And continue that regime. I am 7wks post-op & he said can commence using it again on same pre-op regime absorption to blood is minimal. Way better than other HRT and necessary post menopausal if dry vag or thin membranes up there.
