EUS test

Could someone tell me anything about the eus test?  Do they give anesthesia or just a sedative for it? I am afraid of anything going down my throat, due to gagging reflexes.

Thanks in advance.

Ive had one endoscopic exam and they sedated me. However I woke up just as they were pulling a polyp out of me. I was on a drip so they simply increased it and down I went for aother ten minutes until it was done. THats teh second time I woke during a procedure. I also woke when tehy were doing Athroscopic surgery to repair trn cartilage on my knee. Heres a great link why they do an EUS

You will be sedated before endoscopic is placed: I have gag reflex and felt nothing during the entire test.

I had a supposedly light sedative, propofol, but don't remember a thing.  I was worried about the gag reflex too.  I don't know if one is supposed to be knocked out as I was, I'm not even sure my doc's knew how it would effect me because I have other complex medical issues and had a specialist anaesthetist there as a result.  I was awake the minute the test was over and spent the following 24 hours in hospital.

I had an EUS a couple of months ago and it was fine. I have a vomit phobia and had had an endoscopy a few months previously with no sedation which was horrific but had sedation this time which made a huge difference. You're not fully asleep just very relaxed and you forget most of the procedure almost immediately. I don't remember the tube going down at all and I had two separate ones, for different images. If I had to have another one, I'd definitely go for sedation.

I've had an eus. Was just a light sedation. Not too bad at all. You'll be fine.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I do not feel as freighted anymore.
