I'm supposed to take 5mg after breakfast and 2.5 (1/2 of 5) after dinner. Yesterday I forgot to take the 5mg tablet after breakfast. I didn't notice this until I went to take my half of pill after dinner. Rather than take both the 5 and 2.5mg, I only took the 5mg. I thought taking 7.5mg that late might interfere with my sleep later in the evening.
I feel ok this morning, but I wonder if I did right? Just when I'm trying to reduce without getting a flare, I forget a dose.

Hi Rick!
Getting Alzheimers as well now then????
A good way of getting round this if it happens again would probably be to take the second dose of the day as you did but take extra the next morning which would keep the dose over 2 days the same and be soon enough to prevent any flare in the inflammation. The anti-inflammatory effect lasts up to 36 hours in some people (less in others) so a one-off shouldn't be a problem.
On the other hand - the gurus at Dundee Medical School (our old stamping ground in Scotland) do warn that missing one dose is nothing to worry about but missing 2 consecutive ones might be enough to set you off on adrenal crisis and land you in hospital
I imagine that the lower your dose the less likely that is to happen.
How about setting your mobile phone as a reminder to ring at the times you usually take the tablets - I would use alarm on my phone. I find it useful for that sort of thing as you can set it for the same time every day for ever! Don't know if you can have repeat reminders with the calendar function.
Anyway - here's hoping no flares in sight,
Eileen
Hi Rick
So is Alzheimer's another side effect of Pred then?!!! Although I've never forgotten to take my Pred, I have often felt concerned that I will!
Reminds me of the elderly lady stopped for speedng - she apologised to the officer adding she had to reach her destination quickly or she'd forget where she was going!
Here's wishing you remain flare-free.
MrsO
Thanks for the replies.
Yeah, so now there's 83 side effects with pred... have to add the Alzheimer's to the list, ha.
Since I'm on alternate days (8.5 then 10), being that today is a 10mg day, I hope it will be ok.
Good suggestion about setting my cell phone alarm to alert me. I usually don't leave my cell on as it's one of those 'pay as you go' phones (only costs me about $5 / mo - but 20 cents/minute when I use it. I don't know how people afford the $80 to $100 / mo. plans).
Thanks again.
Rick - the alarm on your phone should work even if the phone is switched off I think.
How do they afford it at $80+? Two reasons - either it's paid by their employer or they are young and stupid and are so sure it is essential that they accept it as a normal cost of living. Like smoking and binge drinking. Then they whinge about not having enough money to do things. I've lost count of the number who say \"You're so lucky to be able to afford that appartment in Italy\" - it's seemples!! (Do you have the meerkat ad   ) I'm cheap to run, no make-up, no designer clothes, don't smoke, have worked all my life and if I couldn't afford it, I couldn't have it. Result - a positive bank balance. And the thing I'm most proud of? I have 2 daughters in the region of their 30s who are the same - one from birth and one learnt it. They will go far despite the global meltdown.
cheers - if you can remember who I am

Hi Rick
last February I sold a job on Martha'sday Vineyard and the day the insallation started I had to meet the crew out there to go over the work. We all took the first ferry at 6.00am and that meant I had to be out of my house by 4.00 am, well I forgot to take my Pred. Didn't think of it untill about 4.00 pm when my shoulders started to stiffen up. Wouldn't you know it was a very stormy day and the afternoon Ferry's were cancelled because of rough seas. Everyone tried to get on the commuter plane so that sold out. Here I am, stuck on an island without my Prednisone which I forgot to take that morning. Thanks to a very understanding and caring pharmosist [not sure of the spelling] and a few panicky phone calls to my Doctors home [It was now around 7.00pm, after hours for the Doctors office] I got some prednisone to carry me over for a couple of days. From that day on I have kept some Prednisone in a sandwich bag in my briefcase
Andrew
Tip for the ladies - put a pack of tablets in your make-up bag, gents in the glasses case maybe, unlike my other half you are unlikely to have a man(hand)bag (we live in Italy, need I say more)! Somewhere - drivers licence holder, whatever. A pack in the car. And then don't do a Clinton and forget where you put it!!! So much cheaper and edifying than an evening in the ED - though I imagine you won't get classed as a drug seeker for asking for 10mg prednisolone!! Doesn't begin with D...
Good suggestions! I'm testing my cell phone now to see if the alarm will sound when turned off.
I keep a 'pill caddy' in my car with a few 5mg Pred tablets along with Excedrin and Tylenol for headache. I just forgot to take my pill while I was still at home.
I joke that I have a terminal case of \"CRS\"... Can't Remember S*&% (or stuff).
Hi Rick -

Purplecat - that was flipping you meant I take it
I forgot to take my steriods on sunday but didn't realise until monday that i had missed them. I didn't fell well on sunday and was up half the night with pains in my shoulders and arms and didn't fell myself on monday and still don't feel quite right today. Does anyone know if it could be cause i missed the steriods. I have never missed them before, I am on 3/2 alternate days which i have been on for 2 weeks, was on 3 a day before then.
Hope you all had a good xmas xx
Hi there Rick I have only been on the tablets a short while but I have a little box with the 7 days on it so that insures that i take the right dose on the right day
Dear ascotlady
I'm sorry to hear you've not been feeling so good since missing a dose on Sunday. Although I've never missed a dose (yet!), I'm sure the body could react quite quickly in such a situation. Hopefully, you will adjust in the next couple of days but, if not, then perhaps you could increase back up to 3 for a few days and then when you feel more comfortable go back to alternating 3/2. Good luck and do let us know how you get on.
