Excercise

Hi everyone 13 weeks post op now and going along fine x I have just acquired an exercise bike to help with recovery can any of you wise hippies tell me how often I should use it and for how long at any one time please x thank you xx

Vanessa hi,  I use mine everyday for about ten minutes. This is now due mainly to time constraints but when I first started I built it up slowly a minute a day and making the resistance harder as I got used to it. I was doing about 20 minutes daily but now I'm recovered I have less time!!!  I found it helped enormously but start slowly and build up to want is comfortable for  you.

hi vanessa,

well, good for you - I have rented one and in my 2nd month right now - I started with 10 minutes twice a day -  then, added a third time - now trying to do 15 minutes each time - to be honest, the saddle hurts my bum, so not too comfortable right now - I should be doing more ... oh, and no resistance because my stamina is short lived -

I do not like the bicuycle at all, but this is okay - The weather has not been too great for walking outside - here in the forest it gets very muddy and path is uneven - so this is defintely an outcome for me -

I believe that I see some muscles reappear on my calves

you go girl, big warm hug

Position bike in front of the TV, put on your favourite show/documentary and cycle for as long as you can...building up by five minutes each day...I found that I could quickly get up to an hour a day...but making the time is an issue, but worth doing definitely.

Having a daily routine with your exercise will help.

I always have a rest afterwards, as it can make you feel tired at the end. It is a lovely feeling being able to cycle again!

Whenever and for how long is comfortable - I started out with 5 mons, and gradually increased the time to 15 minutes, and I have increased the resistance slowly too.

If you cannot spare 15 minutes, or get interrupted, you can always go back and do some more later.

It is an excellent way of exercising and building stamina whenever you cannot get out because of the weather.
